She has been running high for a couple of days and I am finally getting some nice blue number today, I planned on giving her a shot at 7:30pm MST but her BG was 121. I think I am not supposed to shoot at anything lower than 150? I am just bummed that it seems like shes off again, she has been high for the past couple of days and I was happy she was finally having a day of relief but now she might be high again because it seems like I might have to skip her shot. Will test again in 20 min and update. Update it's now at 148 so Im thinking full dose is fine of .75?

I’m tagging Suzanne I do not give dosing advice, even though Corky uses ProZinc, see I shoot very low, you have a good window for ProZinc to shoot, wait till she plugs in the post

Did you retest yet?

And please start posting on the ProZinc forum (tomorrow is okay.). I never would have seen this post if it weren’t for my friend Maria tagging me. @CORKY thank you!

do you think i shouldn't
No. I am not saying that. I think she is on her way up at this point and I think .5 units is safe. In fact, we may find out (and probably will) that the full .75 units would also have been okay— but I like to be safe and gather data to support shooting lower numbers.

what causes a bounce again? I am very confused by it, is it something I can prevent? I will do .5 tonight and test her later on
A bounce is where the cat's body reacts to lower numbers that he is not used to being in anymore... since becoming diabetic. It's a protective mechanism where the cat's central nervous system perceives either a steep drop in blood glucose or simply the cat being in lower numbers - and releases adrenaline, cortisol, glucagons and growth hormone, all of which create insulin resistance and can keep numbers high for up to six cycles (the bounce). Bounces don't have to last that long, but in some cats they will. Over time, many cats will start to clear the bounces more quickly. When the bounce does clear, the BG numbers will come back down and give us an accurate picture of what a dose is doing for the cat.

Thank you! I gave her sub q last night, do you think it helped? Also I am giving her a shot a hour after I usually do, should I make her morning shot different then
I’m glad you gave the fluids last night. It seemed like she needed it. I was going to ask if you gave them because you didn’t reply back. If she doesn’t start pooping regularly you will want to start her on a small dose of MiraLax and adjust it based upon her response to it. You don’t want her getting blocked up and needing an enema.

Yes I did, sorry for not responding back I will try not to do that again! She is on lactulose and went to the potty this morning. I have been juggling her constipation for a long time now so Im used to it. sub q helps her loads but unfortunately I think it broke my libre. I was hoping to have her on a libre just a little while longer so I could get trends on her while I slept but I don't know if I am going to be able to now.

So — about the bouncing again— one thing we can do to try to avoid bounces is to make sure there are not any steep drops in blood glucose during the cycle (by giving the snacks at +2 and +4 or making sure the cat eats something at around those times if kitty is a grazer).

Other than that, the more time the cat spends in the normal BG numbers the better. It’s the only way to get them used to the normal numbers again. Then their body won’t panic and release all those stored forms of sugar and the other hormones.

Ok thank you, I have been leaving out wet food for her to eat when she is hungry mid day, but I will try to give her some snacks at those hours as well

oh sorry I thought I was supposed to post here
No worries. Your initial post is supposed to be on the Feline Health forum. Once you get set up with a spreadsheet and a signature it’s time to start posting on the ProZinc forum.

Now if you are dealing with a low number situation—like tonight even where you are unsure what to do— post on the ProZinc forum and also copy your text over on the Health Forum just to make sure you get eyes on it.

Ok that makes sense! I will do that in the future from now on thank you for your help

Ok, so when I update a post I need to make a new post each time? I assumed that I wouldn't do that because I thought it would be annoying to everyone
No. What I meant is that you edited your first post at the bottom of it and it wasn’t really noticeable. If you have a new piece of information like the new test number you got then just add it to the bottom of your thread in the text box at the bottom of the thread. You would not start a whole new thread. Sorry for confusing you about that.

The thing is that I will get an email if anyone posts on the ProZinc forum. Then if I am around I will reply. So if I don’t reply and it’s an urgent situation it can’t hurt to copy the post over to the Health forum also. And please also tag me.

So just to be clear— the thread is the whole long series of posts. This thread has currently got 26 posts in it (this one is going to be 26 as soon as I send it.)

So I am just saying if you have something important to add, please add it in a post at the bottom of the thread (I am not saying to start a whole new thread.)

A good time to start a brand new thread would be tomorrow morning over on the ProZinc forum. For tonight just use thos one if you need to. And you can always update your thread title as you go along and you can use different symbols like the ? Symbol for example)

I’m glad you have a handle on it. I’ve had very bad constipation situations where I had to use Lactulose, MiraLax and a lot of other things all at the same time. Not good. So I am very happy to hear she had a BM today.

Ok learning the lingo! I was mixing up definitions. This all makes sense now, thank you for the clarification.
