Hello,
After 6 cycles dose increase, his BG looks higher then before. Over 300 every time. Him being on antibiotics could be the reason? Antibiotics last dose was this morning (6 hours ago). He looks a bit better but not totally. He is still hesitant to eat but he does after I insist. He is not vomiting but he is a bit disturb by the food sticking on his throat. What do you think when you look at his SS? Thank yoy

Hi Hi :)

I am still much too new to FD to suggest anything about dosage, but I just wanted to offer support to you and Felix!

Really hoping that finishing the antibiotics help get his BG down.
Also when my Pip doesnt want to eat I sprinkle fortiflora on his food and he scarfs it down, doesnt work for every cat but its worth a try, especially after an antibiotic treatment :)

Wishing you both a great day!

I will give it a try! First, I have to order it! No other possibility where I am. Thank you

I have no expertise, but I would guess that even with the increase, if he's having a FIV flare of some kind (or whatever causes those growths), they might be affecting his BG and making it more stubborn. That kind of thing seems to happen when cats have flares of other kinds of chronic health conditions, or infections (like my boy Gen's dental infection situation, which seems to keep him in highs a lot right now). The antibiotics should hopefully help, if this is the case!

Hopefully someone who knows a bit more can come by and chime in, but that's my very inexpert guess. It's a lot to worry about, I know. I hope Felix's throat feels better soon, and that you see improvement in his BG too!

Yes, his throat remains a problem. Thursday I have another vet appointment and she convinced me Felix doesn't have stomatitis and she wants us to start treatment with cyclosporine and see how it goes. If not, we go with interferon. In the meantime I think, if there is no change in numbers I have go up with doses. Should I wait 10 cycles or less?

I'm not really equipped to give dosing advice, especially with TR (I'm more familiar with SLGS, where you always wait longer). I'll tag a few more experienced folks, though. @Wendy&Neko @Christie & Maverick @tiffmaxee

Well in TR is wait 6 to 10 cycles before increase. And if i look at nadir, increase should be .5. I was just wondering if I have to do it tomorrow or Thursday after we come-back from vet with new treatment.

I can think of a few reasons for higher numbers. The first possibility is a bounce, today is the 6th cycle after that 117 on the 10th. If it's a bounce, it could resolve overnight. I'd wait a couple cycles yet to see if this is a bounce before increasing.

Second possibility is something to do with the antibiotic. Is it by any chance a liquid? Sometimes they put sugar in antibiotics. It can help us if you put the days that you start medications on the spreadsheet, in the Remarks column. Noting anything that can help blood sugars can help us. Another thought is whether the antibiotic is causing tummy upset. Is he on a good probiotic? Not Fortiflora, which is OK as a flavour enhancer but not great as a probiotic.

Third possibility is infection or inflammation or what ever is bother his throat. That can also increase blood sugars.

I filled up SS with antibiotics and AINS treatment. Antibiotics were tablets. As for probiotic, I give him plant enzyme&probiotic 1/4 scoop a day. He has no diarrhoea. He doesn't look having an upset stomach. He is playful. The only thing I notice is that he hesitate eating. He eats in the end but not so fast like he use to. Yeah, those growths in his throat is bothering him. I will wait until Thursday and then decide for increase or not. Thank you
