peanut and i thank everyone SOOO much for all the nice advice and support on my last post.. thanks all the time.. we just appreciate it a lot. 🫶🏼🎇🎉

hes really doing all right, tho im irritated at it all… i been screaming about his thirst for months. so just now this new thing.. and im taking everything w a grain of salt cuz he was also on Amlodipine which can cause dehydration.. so.. it all seemed to happen concurrently so idk. was it coincidence or did the meds not help this/cause trouble? whatever. either way he can use some kidney support and will be inputting his labs (i never did cuz it seemed complicated haha imsorry.. ack 😭😭) ~ will do my best..

went to the ckd website.. been reading what some ppl do.. it is a lot. 😮‍💨 but as im understanding, sub fluids are good, supplements are good tho opinions differ (AminaVast.. Astro’s oil.. Kidney Support Gold.. phosphorus binders.. B complex.. etc etc….).. im really leaning toward the Support Gold (tho apparently the CKD forum/website they dont like it haha.. but the Thistle did us a lot of good.. i aint hear nothing on his liver since..) maybe changing his food but i think we’re ok there and whoopsie daisy not much options anyway cause he got the sensitivies.. 🥲🫶🏼 slippery elm is another thing.. treating his hypertension was an excellent thing.. tho that was also slippery..

ive taken him off the Amlodipine for now. i think it did a lot of good, but hurt too because the execution was all over the place. no initial testing at home.. eye doctors dont treat blood pressure.. etc….. Ive also noticed his thirst is a bit better.. 🫤 im taking readings at home and theyre good…… he was down to 1.. and his sugar numbers 💖… and so just been holding off. important to keep an eye peeled on tho…. 🫤 going Monday to learn on sub q things.. will do a BP test/check my machine against it + see/go frm there.. i really want to use Telmisartan tho if he still needs some help.. but i suppose we’ll see. doc has to get familiar and i get the impression if he dont have too hed rather not. but that matters to
Me and i will request he do it. scared on starting fluids.. but hear its a really therapeutic thing to do. 🙃

Internist appt later this month.. we’ll see on that. 🧐

omw soon to pickup a new pen.. just good to have backups. yayy ugh ❤️‍🩹💚💝.

happy 2026 🎉

I had a CKD kitty in the past that received sub-q fluids. It's not that difficult. I highly recommend Terumo needles (and NOT the harpoons the vet will give you). Search Tanya's site for the gauge (remember: thinner (higher G) = slower flow--thicker (lower G) = faster flow). Terumo needles are a bit more expensive but they slide in like butter. Also, get an IV pole (they aren't that expensive). Yes, the shower curtain rod will work, but with an IV pole, you'll be able to move the pole to the most comfortable place for Pudge to receive the fluids (his bed, etc.). Finally, you can warm the lactated ringer bags in a crock pot turned down very low. This makes a big difference as cold fluid can be uncomfortable.

You can do it! Pudge will feel so much better! It's very much like shooting/testing (except it takes longer), but similar because it's a little process that you learn. Make it a really peaceful time where he gets lots of nice treats and lovies and pets from you.

If you decide to put the bag in a crock pot, put it on a bath cloth. Many people use a warm water bath, which is probably the easiest (Warming SubQ Fluids).

I opted for the faster flow (lower gauge) with my cat because he wasn't the most patient patient :-) Use Terumo UTW (ultra thin walled needles)--I think we used either 18 or 21 gauge.

Read and watch everything you can to get ready. Also, there will be a pouch of water under the skin--that kind of freaked me out at first--it's normal, and it will dissipate over a short amount of time.

omgggg ty..... 😭 ok...... im telling, this place... I'm so grateful to be here. thank you.. I'm trying to think what to do tonite about shot time.. fluid got put in his back.. and I give his shot near neck/shoulder blades... ugh... it's been bout 3 hrs.. think it'd be ok? or I gotta try flank or leg?..... never done this before. :( 😬 I feel like I don't have much time or something cause this came on fast.... cause no one did anything before. 😑

You know, this is a good question! My former cat that had CKD didn't have FD, so I really don't know what to say about the sub-q fluid injection site. I always gave my sub-q fluids in the scruff. But if that's the same place you give his insulin, that might cause an issue. Maybe one of the mods might have more insight and guidance. Why don't you put your ? prefix up and ask.
