So sorry, Xander is still not eating well. How does he seem otherwise? Pooping, playing, grooming? Do you think he’s nauseous or just not wanting to eat?

Poor buddy! Have you ever spoken with the vet to try to get to the bottom of his inappetence? I know that you've mentioned Xander has often (and long) suffered hair balls (vomiting) and periods of not eating. Both of those are symptoms of IBD, which is treatable. It could be just hairballs and poor appetite, but it also could be something you might be able to treat with medication.

Yep, that's the weird thing. Everything else is totally normal as well as normal numbers. I don't see signs of nausea like licking his lips after sniffing food etc. It's more of him just refusing as if to say "i've had enough for now". He's eating but his meals are smaller. Yesterday he was back to his normal sized meals though.

When Jude has been nauseous, unless he is REALLY nauseous, he only refuses to eat--no other symptoms. Rarely does he lick his lips (I only saw this once). Only twice have I seen him grind his teeth. Just know that no eating might be the only symptom.

I'm going to finally schedule a visit today for next week. Anxious because it will be with a new vet, but they are a cat friendly practice and have been around forever.

I need to figure out the gabapentin dose to give him beforehand though. The 100 mg makes him severely wobbly for a good few hours afterwards, maybe I can divide the capsule contents or ask for a lower dosage.

Not sure what to tell you. Could it be his food? Maybe the flavours? Some cats are picky eaters and all of a sudden decide they don't like something that they used to love.
Keep us posted in how he does throughout the day.

I thought it might be food aversion to his normal flavors too, but yesterday he was eating his usual flavors normally.

It looks like they have a bit additional cat training and measures to make it easier on them? They do also treat dogs.

They also have a vet here that specializes in dental procedures so that would be very useful if needed. There is one cat specific vet around here but it is a little out of the way.

I really like his current vet, but I lost a good deal of trust with his post-diagnosis advice.

OMG, yes! What a great option! I wish we had a place like this.

I will look forward to hearing how things go there.
 
Mine still isn't top, but I gave her about 50ml in subq fluids last night as well the previous night. She was quite dehydrated (I have no way of knowing normally as 2 of her 10lbs must be fluff alone), and the first night she was in desperate need, but not as much last night. Either way, it helped her. My cats do this 'gulping' thing when they've got nausea. Angel was doing that and sitting by the water bowl.
She's still not up to speed, but doing much better since the fluids.
Just thought I'd mention that in case. Feel better Xander!

I have to decide on how much gabaentin to give him. They told me I can split the 100mg capsule in half but the concern is that it wouldn't be effective. I just hate seeing him so wobbly afterwards.

I have experience with this one. Sorry to say, you're screwed. I had a mother/daughter that had major issues with car rides. We're talking, needing a large dog crate with litter box, puppy pee pads, and an 'emergency bag' to include all things to clean up after everything that came out.🤢
100 of the gab knocked her mum that was 8lbs off her feet within 20min. She couldn't even walk. Her daughter with the same anxiety in the car was given 50 and it did nothing for her, me I was it to get an hour ahead of time. She's 10lbs.
Not that it won't work for yours, ECID. Just giving how it worked for mine. My angel has an appointment Monday too. Best of luck!

I may try that, or just a slight reduction of the pill contents.

I'm thinking part of the reason for his wobblyness may have been the gaba effects combined with his poor health at the last 2 visits (diabetes diagnosis and 2 weeks after starting insulin). I can monitor him all day afterwards. I'll have to anyways because Flare likes to attack him after vet visits 🙄

Yeah i'm leaning more towards the full dose since I know it works beautifully on him. Just hate seeing him that way stumbling around
