Hello!

My name is Rina and this is Tiger 🐅

Tiger is 10.5 years old. He's been diabetic for around 2 years now and was on Bexacat up until a month ago. We miss it! Now we are on insulin, Vetsulin, and it's been quite the nightmare--though thankfully only for me. Tiger has been great. His bg has been from 260 all the way to 744 in the matter of a few weeks, but he's only had the excessive thirst/urination. It's definitely been a challenge and we're still trying to change everything around to get him as stable as possible.

As for me, I'm a licensed vet tech though I haven't worked in a clinic setting for several months. The clinic I worked at never had many feline diabetic patients so my knowledge is limited at the moment. Thank goodness we found this forum!

So hi!!

Hello and welcome. Can you say a bit about why Tiger switched from Bexacat to insulin? Just trying to learn. I know there are conditions kitties get that mean you have to switch, but it's good to know the background of a kitty. Speaking of which, we like to see some information in your signature, which are the common question we ask, like what food he's getting. More information in here:New? How You Can Help Us Help You!

You might find a switch to a better insulin for cats, Lantus or Prozinc are both much longer lasting than Vetsulin, and easier to get a cat regulated.

Thank you for the newbie info!

We switched from Bexacat to insulin as the Bexacat was no longer controlling symptoms of pu/pd, bg began running higher. If there's an underlying health concern that caused it, we've yet to find it. He was tested for hyperthyroidism and levels were normal.
We're currently looking into other insulin options as well.

So hi!!
Welcome to FDMB
Tiger is beautiful, you are in the right place!

Interesting that Bexacat stopped working for Tiger. It's a relatively new type of treatment so good to learn this is a possibility.

Prozinc or Lantus should give him more even numbers than Vetsulin's wilder swings. What insulin dose is he on? My kitty also started on Caninsulin - what Vetsulin is called outside the US.
