Tiny - New Thread

I was just looking at your spreadsheet notes. I don’t normally recommend feeding much after nadir because it can shorten the duration of the insulin. Of course there are exceptions to that based on health conditions, etc. Normally, I recommend small smacks at +2 and +4 and, depending upon the cat and situation, maybe something at +6. Naturally any time a BG test os done he would get a low carb testing treat!

Hi thank you for checking in, I really appreciate it! ( didn't see this, had a crazy day yesterday). He's doing well, eating his meals and seems in good spirits. I'm concerned about his high numbers and hoping for better cycles. I'm watching his numbers trend down right now from HI on the sensor to 288 but it's so unpredictable. 😬 I was also thinking about his cycles and wondering what the usual hold is before increasing by .25. I'll cut the late meals, he just gets so hungry but I understand why it's better to hold off and maybe that'll help.

(Woops - posted inside your post)

I cut down the timing of meals to +2 and +4. I'm 45 min away from PMPS and he's at 188 with his lowest reading of 183 45 min ago. How do I know what his pre-shot number is supposed to be? How do I gage his dose?

15 min away from PMPS and he's at 180 - nowhere near 300 range. I'm supposed to go by the nadir but he's been staying low. I thought I had it figured out, but I'm a bit confused as to what to do - yikes!
@CORKY - hoping it's okay to tag you 🙏
Yes of course, although I cannot give dosing advice I can tell you that 180 for ProZinc is great to shoot, is not good to skip a dose. I will tag Suzanne and Wendy do dosing, hang in tight, with ProZinc you have a bit time to delay the dose
@Marje and Gracie
@Suzanne & Darcy

What’s his BG RIGHT now! Did you feed at +4.5 after shot, anything above 90 is good, you are still getting used to low numbers

Always tell us his BG number at least 1 hour before PMPS so we can guide you faster, with ProZinc you always keep the same dose and we try not skip a shot is important, you did good though 😉I’m up at 6:00 AM that’s when I feed Corky and give his ProZinc Let me know what his BG then

I will - how do I fix the timing for his shot? I usually give at 6:30 but tonight I gave a little after 7

Always feed at + 4 is important, you are using the Libre,,where you see 50 is probably higher like in the mid 70’s it always reads the lower number much lower, that’s why we always recommend that when you have al 2 Digit BG with the Libre is good to double check with a human hand held monitor and strip

Just curious, do you find the same amount of food per servings works? I try to give 1/2 can FF each time I feed him. He always wants more, more, more! And thank you for the advice! :bighug:

Since we I we feed at PMPS/PMPS, and a snack or small meal at +2 then I feed 3 other 1/2 cans during the day tge last one at 4+ I have huge cats One is 1/2 Main Coon, trust me they don’t stay hungry, his BG right is staying very hungry this it makes him hungry once he gets regulated he won’t be as much

With a 197 you shot 2 units so I think you were good to shoot 1.75 tonight. Feed the snack at +2 and see where he is then. Remember the Libre is going to give you a lower number probably if it’s below 100. If it’s not below 100, then don’t worry about it.

You’ll be able to do the same, don’t worry, it actually took almost 2 years for me to see his SS all green but if you notice, although it took a lot of guts and coaching from Suzanne, Today I shot on 2 mid-low two digits, and control it with food , before skipping a dose, at least for Corky that he will be a lifetime diabetic and sensitive to carbs, his pancreas have healed, if I were to skip, his BG on the next pre shot will way above 400, I never skip a shot or change the dose, and keep the same feeding regiment from day one, those are 3 very important factor to regulate their diabetes, that’s why is very important that if you feel uncomfortable with the BG 1 hour or 1/2 hour before shot so we can be there for you,,we will always be here for you😉

You only delayed a short period of time but I do not believe so, but let me re-tag Wendy, since I do not give dosing advice
@Wendy&Neko
If you only shot approximately 1/2 hour late tonight then it’s okay to give the dose tomorrow morning at his normal time. If you had shot an hour late then we might want to shoot 1/2 hour later in the morning and then at the regular time in the evening. We generally don’t want to move the shot time more than 1/2 hour per day, although there can be exceptions to that. I think you will be fine to shoot at normal shot time tomorrow.

6 a.m. ? What time zone are you in?

Thank you, that's good news. I started aiming for 6:30, hoping to eventually get to 6am. I'm PT

was either 220 or 224
Okay. So you should put 220 or 224 (whichever it’s so close it doesn’t matter) in your spreadsheet in the PMPS cell. You can actually stack the numbers in there to show that you stalled for 30 minutes. Like this:
194
220 +30

That show the original reading and the next reading 30 minutes later (or however many minutes it was +35? )

It was either 220 or 224, I think. It had gone up when he started eating. He was 12.5 pounds in October. He feels about the same but the vet said he should be more like 11. He used to be 16
Okay so you probably don’t want to over feed him (but you don’t want to underfeed him either as, when his BG is high, his body can’t utilize all the food he takes in to supply energy for his cells as the sugar is in his bloodstream and not entering the cells. Try to give just a tablespoon or two at the pre-planned snack times. If he’s really frantic though, you could give a little more. I know what it’s like to have a cat like that. It will get better.
