? 12/15/25 Mikey PMPS Hi +5 wonky numbers…making me crazy

Mikey has recently been diagnosed with 2nd Stage kidney disease and his phosphorus levels are still 5- normal range.

But his PM numbers went low around the time he had his physical and we discovered the renal issue. Change of diet to renal food, and a few dose changes have created this insanity with the numbers.

No ketones, eating, peeing and pooping and drinking water. He likes the prescription food . The vet does not seem upset, but my OCD kicks in and I am wacky. I guess it will take time to find th right dose and for these bounces to settle if they ever do. I saw blue for the first time in a week last night.

Thanks for listening . Thoughts are always appreciated
Tom :)

I'm sorry I don't have thoughts, as I have little knowledge of interactions between kidney disease and BG levels! Just wanted to say that it sounds quite stressful to me, and I get how one's own mental health things can get tangled up in managing your pet's health. I hope things smooth out and/or that someone around here has some wisdom to offer. From me, hugs if you'd like them.

It will take time to figure out the dose as you are feeding dry and high carb food. It’s hard to see but you are doing what you can. Any chance of feeding lower phosphorus wet food? Try not to stress. I know that is easier said than done.

Personally I hate renal foods. I believe they are the opposite of what's good & healthy for them. I've had 4 cats with kidney failure, and listened to the vet for the first 3. They all wasted away to nothing. For the 4th, I listened to newer research stating to feed them high meat protein food. He not only gained back his weight, but stopped needing subq fluids (according to the vet) and his anti nausea meds, but over the course of 6 months, went from stage 3 to not having kidney failure anymore. If you get bored and are in interested, here's an article by a vet explaining how newer research is proving those old myths false. There's also a Dr. Norsworthy has really good input and research on it as well. I'll never feed s loose protein diet to a cat again. I'm not saying everyone has to follow, but the research is out there and it's real interesting. :)
Hope he gets his numbers sorted out and soon

It’s a game with the low phosphorous food, he detests Weruva or shredded foods, But I keep trying. I am not a big fan of an all renal diet because of the weight loss. So I still feed him his FF.

I have not stopped giving him Fancy Feast or high protein wet food. I am sticking to the Royal Canine for just the dry mostly because he refuses to eat his diabetes Epigen 90 or Dr. Elsey clean protein

Thanks…. Diabetes is a challenge and with this new renal issue, it is a real challenge. But I have hope, humor and support!

The thing that scares me is these HI numbers beyond 600. I don’t see many on this forum with numbers like that and to be so inconsistent this long. I guess it is a waiting game because I don’t think I should increase his dose yet. I am just so worried thinking it is something else. It is not the kidney disease that worries me, it is the glucose numbers

He seems fine!!

Has anyone else gone thru this ??????

Im feeding my renal cat, Oscar, Young Again Maure Zero Limited Ingredient diet. Its dry, but I do give him some wet. Hes not diabetic, but I also feed this same food to my diabetic girl Karamelle. Its low carb, low phosphorous. They both do well on it. LID Zero Mature Health - Young Again Pet Food All the nutritional info is on this page.
At Oscars last blood work, his renal values had dropped. His phosphorous has always been normal as well. Hes 16.

Yup! That's the food many use mine get. Young Again Zero is amazing, the owner will write/call you directly with any questions your may have. I've talked off & on with him for years now. They truly believe in their product. You have to order it directly from them though, as they don't sell to companies.

Oh! And my boy had awful blacks and reds house first month. The numbers were so bad they didn't even register, which meant over 600.😬
We had to switch off from Prozinc to Lantus and he eventually did better.
