yesterday's condo

Thankfully, Jude's numbers are coming down today.
He ate on his own this morning.
I'm continuing him on Ondanestron to ward off any further nausea.
We are still going to the vet this afternoon for labwork.
Is it possible that this entire spike in numbers was due to nausea from the Clavamox, which is now working it's way out of his system.
He does seem to feel better.

I so appreciate everyone's input and advice as we've gone through this.

Have a nice day everyone!

Fingers crossed it was just a side effect of the Clavamox... I had to take it myself a couple months ago (because Esse bit me, lol) and it wrecked havoc on my system. My mom is a pharmacist and told me it's a "scorched earth" kind of antibiotic and affects the good bacteria as much as the bad.

Wow. "scorched earth!" That's serious. Jude's been on it several times with only the side effect of diarrhea, but I guess this time his body just said, no thanks.

Just in the sense that it's not particular about what bacteria it targets! That same thing also makes it valuable, since you don't need to know exactly what the source of the infection is to prescribe it.

(Also I feel compelled to explain for anyone reading along that I took the HUMAN equivalent of Clavamox, lol, not the actual cat/dog medicine.)

Anyway, keep us updated on the labs etc.!

Yay Jude! I'm doing my happy dance for him! Happy he's feeling better. Good luck with his appointment today and sending happy thoughts for nothing but good test results.

Very glad to hear Jude is feeling better and BG is better. Hope the vet visit goes well and Jude continues to improve and eat well!
Keep us posted, Mary, hugs to you and Jude!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Also doing the happy dance for Jude. Anxious to hear outcomes of vet visit etc. fingers crossed!

Jude's report from the doctor was good: liver, pancreas, kidneys are all good. Blood work was normal. The doctor thinks that the Clavamox just did a number on Jude this time, despite him not having problems with it in the past. In the future, he will give injectable abs to try to avoid stomach upset. I'm very glad to hear this report.

The doctor does not know why Jude's numbers periodically go up but then go down in response to an antibiotic when there is no bacteria present in the bladder. It's a mystery.

Assuming that part of what we've been dealing with is an FIC flare, the doctor is prescribing transdermal Amitriptyline for Jude's FIC; he will take this daily as a means for controlling anxiety.

He also prescribed transdermal Cerenia to use when Jude has stomach upset, in conjunction with the Ondanestron.

I'll be doing Jude's PS in a little while, so we'll see how his numbers look. He was 160 at the vets office, but that's to be expected.

Also, as I mentioned before, Jude is having problems with diarrhea, and he had a large bowel movement in his carrier on the way to the vet today. What. A. Mess. I guess the good news is that it was on the way to the vets, so when we got there, the clinic staff whisked him away and cleaned him before they began to exam and draw blood. When we got back home, though, he wasn't completely clean, so I TRIED to put him in the sink and wash him. We don't wash Jude, so this was deeply, deeply, profoundly offensive and disturbing to him, and he nearly killed me in the process. Poor fella.

Thanks, everyone, for your care, concern, and feedback! I really appreciate it.

So glad he seems to be feeling better and that the vet report is good!!

Seems like we're in a similar place with some antibiotics really messing up our poor boys. You know I can relate to the diarrhea messes. 😩 So sorry that you're going through this too.

I'm happy to hear all of Jude's blood work came back good. Sorry about the poop mess , I'm sure if my Tyler or Perry was still here and I tried to was them they would have nearly killed me too.
Nice cycle today Mary , I hope Jude's numbers come down tonight to safe blues and high greens πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€—

So glad things are looking better, Mary.
And hoping Jude will feel better each day.
Glad you now have Cerenia to have in your arsenal in case it’s needed, too.
We need to be prepared for all emergencies πŸ₯°

You’re the best cat Mom! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
