Stoney

Huge news! Stoney’s appetite is fully back. The Zofran is working like magic! He has already eaten 2 1/2 cans today. My boy has been hungry! Now that he is feeling better we should really be able to knock those nasty ketones out. Fingers crossed! I am over the moon that he is feeling better enough to eat. ❤️😸

Hi @Suzanne & Darcy ! Been a few days. Stoney is up to 3.5u. I’m thinking, that his high numbers, are due to the potency of his vial of Prozinc. We have had it since September 28, when we went home from the hospital. There are no floaters that I can see. We are picking up a new one today. I plan on starting it tomorrow morning due to hypo possibilities. I can monitor much easier during the day. Should I lower his dose in the morning? If so, to what? Other than the high numbers he really is being his normal self. Sleeping a lot but having the zoomies a few times a day with his siblings. Last night we played with the laser for a while!

I’m sure it’s not the ProZinc vial since it’s only a little more than a month old (not two months old.) The vials can last up to six months if properly stored and handled (not shaken but just gently rolled on the counter to mix and kept in the refrigerator, of course.) So unless you have a bad vial to begin with, I doubt it will make a big difference. I am sorry to say that and I will hope that it does improve his numbers.

Since his nadirs are firmly in mid-yellows, I would not reduce his dose with the new vial. He has a long way to go before there would be any chance of him dropping below 50. And you will be monitoring his cycle closely, I know. If there’s nothing dramatic by +2 then it probably will be a typical cycle for him.

I would just hold the 3.5 units for one extra day to see if the new vial makes a difference and then move to the planned increase to 3.75 units.

It’s really good to hear that he’s behaving normally! And playing with the laser :cat: His appetite is still good? With Mirataz or without? With Zofran or not? Watch out for constipation with Zofran. Make sure he’s having regular BMs.

Sounds good! Thank you for the information. His appetite is still good, using Mirataz and Zofran. He is having at least a BM/day, but that makes sense as to why I thought his stomach was slightly hard! I can give him 1/4 tsp of Miralax with his snack if that would help?

Sorry for being a wet blanket. I will be so thrilled if Stoney starts getting better numbers with the new vial.

Yes. You can try 1/8 or 1/4 tsp Miralax with his food to see if it helps. It can sometimes take a little while to see if that is the correct amount. Then once things start to improve, many cats can be regulated by a very small amount each day. You will know if it’s too much 😟

I am also hoping to see better numbers. I was really disappointed when we woke up to the 400 this morning. :( he was doing pretty well yesterday in the mid 200’s. I was hoping that dose was starting to work for him.

We will start with 1/8 - I don’t want to overload him!

I never thought I would say this, but it’s good to see yellows on his spreadsheet!

Ketones this morning?
I agree. Never thought I’d be so happy to see yellows! We started the new vial this morning so hoping to see more. Didn’t check ketones…. His ears have been giving me barely any blood for even a BG reading lately. I have wasted so many strips from them drying out too quickly! I will check at +2, when both of us are more awake. He did get about 100mL of fluids last night!
