'Rebound' effect after increasing insulin? BG went back up on Day3

currently on Day 3 of increased insulin dose from 1u b.i.d to 1.5u b.i.d.

the first two days, BG dropped significantly from prior numbers. prior #s were 400s-600s. the first 2 days of new dose yielded 300s-400s. however, today they are back to being high. i took 2 readings today- 487 & 590.

i think i read this was a common 'rebound' effect after increasing dose, but now i cant find where i read it to confirm. is this true?

You may be thinking of new dose wonkiness. From the Basics Sticky:

"Many cats will occasionally react to an increased dose with increased BGs - within the first 2 to 3 days after an increase, usually lasting for less than 24 hours. Nobody really knows what the reason for this phenomenon is (perhaps a "panicky liver"?) - hold the dose and ignore the fluctuations." http://www.tillydiabetes.net/en_6_protocol2.htm. Here in the Lantus, Levemir, and Biosimilars Insulin Support Group (ISG), we've affectionately dubbed this unexplained phenomenon "New Dose Wonkiness" (NDW).

Can we please convince you to get a spreadsheet set up? It's really, really important. None of the experienced members are going to be comfortable providing dosing input without benefit of a spreadsheet. We have members who can help out.

We don't know if what you're explaining in new dose wonkiness or a bounce.

yes, i will set it up at some point, but haven't had the time. i have it all on a physical spreadsheet right now.

You’re welcome! There is quite a lot of great information here, so it’s easy to read something then think hmmm, where did I read that? As Sienne mentioned, it could have just as easily been a general question about bouncing, so a spreadsheet in order to give specific help about Soreto is a must ;).
