? 26/8 Shakti -- AMPS 408?? What am I doing?- questions

Hi all,

The higher carb experiment is not proving to be very good at all :( I thought it was going better, feeding lower amounts mixed with her regular food around shot times. But she is having skyrocketing values and the insulin is wearing off WAY too soon. I'm concerned I am only making her worse... It's all in all incredibly frustrating. I'm honestly starting to wonder whether this really wasn't a very bad decision :( Should I increase the dose?? A drop used to be enough but her sugars are higher before and after shots than they have been since diagnosis.... I'm honestly getting a little desperate because I spend so much time monitoring her that I hardly have time for anything else and I just want her to be stable..

Her sugars aren't even dropping into the yellows today.. there seems to be nothing happening at all, even though I have only fed a bite or so of higher carb...I honestly feel as though I made her worse.......

I’m sorry, Fae. The FD life can take so much of our energy and attention and can become so frustrating when the inexplicable keeps happening. It can take time to find what works for our fur babies and since ECID it’s often a learning curve for each of us, which doesn’t make it any easier. You’re doing everything for Shakti and I know she’s better for it.

At the beginning and even now, I’ve really had to trust the process and methods. Binx has gone from 1.75 units up to 4.75. The higher the dose, the harder it was to swallow. It felt like we were losing progress… but if his numbers were better (which they were at a higher dose) then it was worth it. Hope you keep pushing through and that you’ll get some answers here. 🤗

Yes I hope so too! She's been in pink numbers most of the day and I honestly don't know what to do... I've haven't fed anymore higher carb, but the numbers just will not stabilize I feel like I have set something off whilst things were going relatively well..
It can be difficult, but try not to feel too guilty or blame yourself for anything. I know I've gone over every decision, vial change, meal time adjust, to find a reason to why BG won't stabilize or suddenly shoots up. For 6 months my vet told me the only reason he could possibly not be stable is because I was injecting wrong... it really got into my head. Turns out, he just needed more insulin (they didn't think more than 1.5 units was necessary)! Let's see what the next few cycles bring for Shakti 🤗

There’s a learning curve for sure. It does not help that every cat is different. She bounced from green and each bounce can last 4 or more cycles. We need to find a way to get her used to normal BG. The reason for higher carbs is to be able to give her insulin and they sometimes means more insulin. What percent carbs are you giving? I would try not giving higher carbs at shot but rather at *1? The big drops cause a bounce as well as getting lower than she’s used to having. Her night nadirs are good but then she bounces. The food experiment will take time and as we often say patience. We pass patience pants around here a lot. How’s she feeling? How are the 5 p’s? Playing, purring, peeing, preening, pooping? She’s more than her BG.

She was doing very very well for a few days. All of the five P's good. But today after the morning she seems a bit more tired. She also vomited grass and it was hard to get her eating in the morning. She's eating, but less than usual.
Poops are good, pee is good, she's affectionate and not crawling away.
