Hi there,
I think Charlie may have earned another reduction.
His AMPS was 187, and his check at +3 right is 58 - I am now following the low numbers protocol to get him back up carefully and will post on his sheet as I go. He's not symptomatic in any way.
Also, my vet responded to my check-in email, this is a snippet of her response:
"Hello there (me)
I am so happy to hear that Uncle Charlie is doing so great at home! I am VERY impressed with your spreadsheet and am glad you have been able to go down with his insulin dosages. Not all clients are as dedicated as you are, and with him responding really well, I think I would continue managing his insulin dosages the way you have been."
She goes on to say she doesn't need to see him again until his yearly, which is in October, and to remind me to try to keep a handle on his weight gain. (He was a bit of a chonk before he got sick).
I'm so relieved at her positive response.

What did you give him to eat. At 68 on your Alpha Trak meter you should only give hos regular food. It’s only if he drops below 68 that you give HC.

It's on his chart but this is what I have so far, I'm still feeding and testing:
58 at +3 - Tsp high carb snack
77 at +3:20 - Tsp low carb snack
61 at +3:40 - Tsp high carb snack

Sorry that was a typo! His reading was actually 58, not 68. I understand not to do HC food unless it's under 68.

nd since he keeps dropping back down, please add some Karo syrup to the food. About 1/4 tsp.

If that’s all you have (it’s very thick) and he will eat it then yes. My cats don’t like it but some love it.

Oh. That’s only medium carb and not high carb. High carb needs to be 15 percent or more. However if he likes it he can eat it with the NutriCal mixed in or karo syrup or honey.

Mixed in with a tsp of food would be best because the food will help sustain numbers longer

OK. I tried to mix in a little Lil Gravies, which I read were high in carbs, but he doesn't like that (surprisingly, given that he'll eat anything I thought). So mixed in a little Nutri-cal with the gravy food. He licked the gravy mixture mostly.
His most current reading is 68.

I'll get some of this. He does like the Nutri-cal, but if given on a spoon. He wouldn't eat it in his food. I tried a tiny bit on a spoon to see if he would eat it.

I gave him some lil gravies, which he didn't care for (see above post) but he did lick most of it and ate the food with it. So give him more Nuti-cal right now? He gets another test in 15 mins.

No. We make an exception in the case where we are managing low numbers. Otherwise we try to limit threads to 50 posts. But don’t worry if you exceed that…. We aren’t going to kick you off the Board. Lol. Someone will just come along and ask you to please begin a mew thread and link the old thread at the top of the new thread.
