For another perspective ;), a cat with acro and probably IAA (couldn't test cause in France), check out Crystal's SS. Her caregiver Suki earned those balls of steel, shooting 60 units at green preshots. As a concession, she reduced additional R dose from 22 to 11 units. Note, I think in my time here I've seen maybe just two cats here getting 80 total units of insulin per cycle. So not common. But a case of "a cat needs however much insulin they need".
THAT is fascinating! If I'm understanding correctly, was she on two different insulins? How in the world did they ever figure out the correct dose, since most cats never require that much?

Followed TR all the way up. Size of increase was more like 10-15% of the size of dose. You would take forever to get up there with 0.25 unit increases. :p Human diabetics often use Lantus and R, with the R(Regular) taking the edge off when given at meal times. It's a quick in and out insulin. The downside of larger doses is the larger depot which can be a real pain when reductions are earned. Using R meant you could give more insulin, but build a smaller depot with just the L component. Crystal was listed as being 4.5 kg, just under 10 lbs of pretty tabby/white. Loved her prawns!

Thankfully Charlie isn't looking like one of the super dose sized cats.

Today’s post: https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...3-2-99-3-90-4-88-5-100-6-75-122-9-146.299954/

So, now we’ve got a new puzzle to solve. Charlie hasn’t peed since late last night (around 3AM). Normally he goes twice a day, every 12ish hours. A LOT at a time.

He’s acting totally fine other than being a bit low on energy from going into green for the first time.

Is this to be expected as his hydration levels normalize? My old cat used to get blockages so I’m a bit paranoid about that, but he would loaf whenever he was blocked.

Apologies if this is supposed to be merged into today’s thread—I don’t know how to do it and that thread is already pretty long

You can ask a mod to merge threads, we have a few extra options in our menus. ;). Don't worry about too long a thread, better to have all the day's action in one spot. Just go back to the subject line and edit it so we can see you have a new issue/question.

Haha fancy top secret options! Thank you and noted :cat:
