Rapidly dropping BG

How about seeing where he is in a little bit after eating. Remember it was be about 2 hours before the new shot onsets and starts to lower BG

How long can I wait after eating before giving the shot? Because he is staying around 190 and eating a lot, I feel okay I think in giving 2 units because as you said he is dropping because he hasn't eaten and it doesn't seem to be plummeting.

That's what's so weird....it's been 20 ish and it's still 188. I've noticed lately that his numbers have been much more flat at times.

He started dinner 30 minutes ago (he's almost done now, it takes him a while) and his BG has dropped to 184. Strange.

I’m not sure any got in unfortunately. Afterwards I realized something was off and I’m not convinced I penetrated the skin. Hopefully he won’t get too too high overnight. <3

Well, we will see how high he climbs. Maybe he will not climb too high. It’s possible. And you can rest tonight… and tomorrow’s shooting decision should be easy.

Hope you're well today! Here's a little update:

Luckily Cash stayed below 300 all night, but spent some time there a couple hours after eating this morning. He has been slowly decreasing all day and has spent a couple hours in the blue now and is holding in the low 130s to mid-140s now. Feels good to see him spend more time safely in the blue! I will say he does seem to stay a bit hungrier when he's lower. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I did give him a few more spoonfuls of his LC wet food a couple hours after lunch (which is not more food, I took it from his dinner portion). Interested to see where his levels will be at dinner/shot time. Still a bit unsure of what to shoot if he's staying in the mid to low 100s.

Hi! He did pretty well staying in yellow last night and was at least just under 300 this morning. It took him a little while to get back to where he began at AMPS, but he’s certainly working that insulin now. It does look possible he will be in blue at PMPS. We can see from last night’s fur shot that he was actually on his way up at the end of cycle. Not a huge spike up (which is good) but trending upward gradually.

Little update here. Cash was hovering at around 197-200 AMPS today and spent most of the day in the blue (yay!) When I first got home this afternoon, he was steadily increasing into the 140s 150s on the way, I thought, to closer to 200. Now about 45 minutes before dinner/shot he has been staying between 108 and 98 for the past 15 or so minutes. I was just getting comfortable giving him 2 units at 200! If his BG does not increase, I am unsure of what dose to give him. Is he just getting too hungry before dinner? He had a smaller meal around 12:30pm, so he hasn't been starving all day since breakfast.

I reduced his dose to 1.5. I didn't feel comfortable giving him the 2 with his BG being that low and having no history with shooting at those low numbers. I hope I lowered it enough.

I don’t see the spiking and dropping on his spreadsheet? I can’t tell from your spreadsheet when you shot or if you shot late.

I think it's because I had stopped updating less than 30 min apart. I can try to add some so you can see. I shot at 6 pm, 12 hours after his breakfast, 15-30 min later than normal. His levels were fluctuating between 130s-high 140s at the time, but staying a bit more towards the high 140s.

Even tonight, Libre will show BG going down to 120 quickly, then coming back up just as fast, but largely staying in the 160s with plenty of time in the 140s as well

Let me know if you do have any thoughts on Cash's dosing. It's clear that 1.5 units got him back up to mid 200s by +10 overnight, so giving him 2 units this morning felt good. I feel good giving him 2 units when he is around 180-200. It's when it drops lower, especially below 150 that I get a bit squirrelly. Even on 1.5 units last night, although on his spreadsheet you'll see him solidly in the mid 100s, there were several momentary spikes downward to 100 before shooting back up. I'm not sure if this is a Libre issue or something else. Regardless, I'm unclear as to whether I should be being Cash 2 units when he is in the mid to low 100s pre-shot.

Also, I was finally successful with a handheld glucose meter last night with Cash. I wanted to see how it compared with the Libre and it was generally in the same range (read 154 when Libre read 169, but his BG was falling and the Libre is a bit behind). So I think the Libre is generally working, but not sure how serious to take the momentary spikes.

Next time he’s in the 165 range like this morning, try 1.75 units. If we want to start seeing a little green on his spreadsheet, we need to give a little more insulin.

I am just checking in on you and Cash.

Cash is not in remission. His numbers tell me that he’s close and has a good chance. A cat in remission will be between 50 and 100 to perhaps 120 at most — spending most of their time in green numbers. His numbers indicate that he needs some insulin support to help his pancreas continue to heal. This is the way to ensure a long-lasting remission. I would like to help you with that. I think he is close to remission, and we can get him there.
