Amps 50 **Libre reading

Well, last night’s cycle was certainly not what I expected.
Around +3 Ivy started to drop and she continued to drop and stay low all night long, overnight. I was up with her all night feeding higher carbs to try to keep her coasting. She did not cooperate well for manual tests. :arghh:
I tried several times and failed.
Eventually I got a good manual reading when the Libre read LO, the manual reading was 96, so she was safe at that point.
She could have gone lower, but I just have no way of knowing that since the Libre just read “Lo” for hour after hour and carbs just weren’t bringing her up;)
Since she stayed in that range for so long, eventually this morning the Libre failed :arghh:

I thought that the chances of that happening were highly probable. Big bummer because it’s only been active for five days.

I just removed the old Libre and changed her top, so she’s not very happy with me with all the fussing today and poking of the ears overnight.
At some point I have to cut her nails because we have the vet visit on Tuesday morning, so that’s gotta be done before then.

Needless to say, I did give a slight reduction this morning down to 2.75 fat units. We’ll see where this takes her.

Hope everyone has a calmer day than we have had.
Getting no sleep at all is a big bummer. Hopefully this afternoon I can try to get a mini nap.

Have a safe and boring day, everyone:cat:

That’s awesome that you did get that manual reading! Poor Ivy though, I’m sure she’s just not used to all that. It’s good to have that data against the Libre though, and glad she was safe :bighug:

Yikes, what a long night for both of you! You must be exhausted today. You're such a good Mama to Ivy!

I'm glad you were able to get a manual reading finally! Why's it have to be so hard? It'd be really nice if the Libre just read higher and lower. I wonder why it doesn't. I'm so sorry you already had to replace it! It's so frustrating when it barely lasts a week (or even a full day)!

I hope today is nice and calm (without too big a bounce) and you're able to get some rest! :bighug:

Thank you again so much for being there for Xander and I yesterday too. ❤️❤️❤️

Yikes! I'm SO sorry for both of you! It looks like she's bouncing back up a bit, so perhaps she'll be a little higher tonight, and both of you can get some much-needed rest.:bighug:

Thanks, Mary. I’m sure we are both exhausted. She definitely had more sleep than me, but I didn’t have my ears poked by mom ;)
:bighug::cat::bighug:

Sending lots and lots of CATpuccinos your way as I'm sure you'll need them.
Hopefully she'll settle down and let's you relax for a bit.
Happy sunday :cat:
Thanks, Karolina! We need those CATpuccinos today!
She’s bounced today, whew. No surfing with the sharks this cycle. Oy, what a night. o_O
Hope you get home soon! :bighug::cat::cat::bighug:

Thanks, Tim, it was a rough one over here. Glad that’s over for now :blackeye:
Enjoy your ride the next few days to :otj:! it’s so exciting for Pookey :bighug::cat::bighug:

Thanks, Brianna! It was a rough ride last night.
I’m so glad to hear Xander is doing better today. Sending him lots of good wishes. You both did just great yesterday ❤️❤️❤️

It’s so hard to see our fellow kitties and humans go through these difficult times. I hope it was just a fluke and in the past!

Have a calm and very boring Sunday and gentle hugs to sweet Xander :bighug::cat::bighug:

What a night!! It must be so scary seeing only "LO" and having no other point of reference - especially when you know it might be higher but you don't actually know, so you must panic regardless! Really amazing job keeping her safe and sound. I know she must hate the ear pricks but glad it gave you some understanding of where she was when it was all happening. Take some rest during this bounce and hopefully she's back to safe numbers soon!
Ivy is so lucky to have you, Staci :bighug:

Thank you, Briana:bighug:
It’s certainly a daunting process. Ivy is a tricky customer. But we do the best we can!
Thanks for your sweet message. :bighug:

I hope you and Binx are doing well and have a safe night :bighug::cat::bighug:

I do wish Minner could tolerate the Libre. It’s sooooo convenient. But we gave that up many months ago as I was wasting tons of $ when she would rip it off in days, sometimes the same day, and it just was awful on her skin. She has permanent scarring. I poke her ears over 10 times a day and strangely she doesn’t mind. Thank goodness. I would have never imagined early on during our diabetes journey that this is where we would be 9 months later.

That’s wild that Libre is Lo and an ear poke reading is 96. Is that a human meter? I assumed so. What a huge difference.

These unanticipated and no way to predict declines are why I test 10+ times a day. I live in fear of it happening. I kind of think they tell us in other ways and I need to get better at trusting her. She’s more vocal and antsy when she’s going low. She also eats from her bowls outside of our test/feed routine. I wish I could react to her vs always trying to control and manage … maybe over time.

Anyway, glad you both are safe and hope you both get a better night’s rest tonight.

Hi Staci. Sorry, you both had a rough night and had to replace the sensor. I hope you were able to get a nap in today.
I keep losing data :(Good luck with the reduction. Wishing you a restful calm evening and safe surfing, Ivy!

Hi Laura, @MinnerPip just curious about a few things that you said in this post. When you say it was damaging to her skin, was glue being used to attach the Libre? (I do not use glue.)
I’m sorry that her skin was damaged. Also, did you have the Libre covered with a T-shirt of some kind?
That can keep them from ripping the Libre off. I believe Ivy would rip one off if I did not have it covered, which I do at all times (with a “tube” top.)

You’re very lucky that manner doesn’t seem to mind the pokes.

Ivy fights me and it becomes a battle where I just get bitten and scratched and that’s why we use the Libre. She just refuses to tolerate the poking.

In actuality, when I did get that 96 reading, yes it was on a human contour next meter. But, I was getting no reading on the Libre at the time I got that poke and got a 96 so it is actually possible that the Libre might have been slightly higher than an LO.
When the glucose tends to be dropping or rising quickly, it can stop reading for a time. Sometimes a brief time, sometimes longer, so I wasn’t actually quite sure what the reading would have been on the Libre, I just assumed it was in the Lo range and yes, there can be a vast difference From LO To what the handheld glucometer can read.

I’m aware of that since I use the Libre all the time, sometimes I’ve had readings in the 60s on a handheld and sometimes over 100. I think LO is sort of a catch all number in a certain range.

It’s good if you can read Minner’s Symptoms and signs.
Ivy doesn’t seem to show me anything I can glean what’s going on by her behavior. However, I can only hope that she’s never actually had a hypo, so I don’t really know how she would act or react.

Hi Madeline, thanks so much for the good wishes. I did get some sleep last night since she was much higher. What a night Saturday night was, oof. :arghh:

I wonder why you’re losing data lately?

I hope things are going smoothly with you and Butch!

Hi Staci, I am glad you got some sleep last night. I hope Ivy slides down gently and surfs steady.

I think maybe the cause of losing the data is Butch's HI cycles. I don't remember having this trouble when he was surfing lower.

Staci, I have new people shooting Butch. I had them watch videos and I have explained. We usually give it between the shoulder blades and tent to give it under the skin. Butch doesn't have a lot of skin that pulls up. I was wondering, where do you find it best to give Ivy's injection? My vet says the scruff, but I heard it doesn't absorb the best in that area. Any thoughts?

Thank you so much. I am hoping to get a vet visit today for his Solensia injection and lab work.

Wishing you and Ivy a great day and safe surf!

Hi @Madeline528
Good luck today with lab work and Butch’s injection. I hope everything goes smoothly.

I inserted a picture here of Ivy and tried to indicate where I give her shot.
Hard to get the arrows to give a really good picture. But I don’t do the scruff as you’ve mentioned. I’ve read also that it’s not the best place. Apparently if you have to, then you have to, but I agree. I try to avoid that.
I go a little lower than the scruff, sort of her upper back above where her tube top hits.
Sort of her shoulder area if I had to describe it. (I use the “roll method”)
I hope this helps

Thank you so much, Staci :bighug: This does help!

Staci, how would you describe the roll method? I am not sure I know the roll method. I only know how to pull the skin up and to shoot in the tented area under the skin.

Hi Staci, sorry for late response, I didn’t access the site yesterday and am just now seeing your response.

Yes, I think adhesive was being used. I have not put the Libre on, my vet has always done it. After the first few attempts he asked me to buy the Skin Tac adhesive and I did, so I know he used that a few times. Do you think that could be what causes the intense skin reaction ?

I did try the tshirt on her … a onesie with bottom cutoff. That was a disaster. She completely freaks out and given that I need her to eat on some semblance of a schedule I find it difficult to try to force something like this for very long if it then makes her so distraught she won’t eat.

We had to keep rotating where to attach it so her skin could heal and it would take over a month to heal. For weeks afterward she would incessantly overgroom the area which exacerbated the swelling and redness. I told her that if she would let me poke her ear multiple times a day that I would never put the Libre on her again. She apparently agreed to that deal !! :)

I did really like the alert feature so that I could go to sleep at night with some level of assurance that if she went low I would be awakened. I don’t get much sleep anymore as I’m almost always afraid. Thankfully right now we’re running a little higher on average, but still with good nadirs most of the time (knock on wood) so I’m usually able to go to sleep after +5 or +6, but even then sometimes I set my alarm to check her at +8 or 9 or 10.

I have heard/read that the Libre can be less aligned with handheld when you start going below 100. That’s why I was wondering if your 96 was handheld human meter and if that correlated to what you would expect when Libre reads LO. I’m sorry Ivy is so resistant to the pokes, but at least when you really need to do it, you are able to.

These fur babies sure keep us on our toes!
