? 3/19 Charlie PMPS 318, +2 260, +4 268, + 5.25 337, +8 431, +9 399, PMPS 406

UGH it's so frustrating when he comes down a good amount by +2 but it doesn't hold and then starts going back up by +4 :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I did brush him earlier though which he doesn't enjoy and he yells at me the whole time, so maybe that contributed?

Anyway, I'm on the fence about whether to increase by .25 or .5 tomorrow. What do you guys think?

Sorry to hear Charlie doesn't like brushing and yells all the way through! That must be tricky for you as he's such a fluffster, and it must take a bit of work to keep him so gorgeous.

Certainly does look like Charlie is due an increase. Maybe @Bandit's Mom can advise on how much to go up?

It's definitely a challenge. I used to have to get him shaved once a year because his mats would get really bad. He has a lot of trauma around that which is why he hates being brushed (and why I opted not to have the libre put on--he freaks out at the sound of clippers) Thankfully in the last year he suddenly stopped getting matted and began trusting me to brush him out so I can catch knots before they get worse.

His BG shot way up since my last post. It had to have been from brushing him. Not sure how to handle this going forward as I can't NOT brush him. Ugh.

Poor Charlie. That sounds like a real challenge. Wonderful that you were able to get him to trust you to brush him though, that must have left like a real breakthrough.

The sudden rise in his BG at +5 today is kind of strange. Very puzzling. o_O
You'll have to check if its a trend the next time or two you brush him.

Okay I'm starting to really freak out now and I don't know what to do. Wtf is going on. I just tested again and he's now at 431. Earlier when I brushed him I sprayed some tangle remover on him which I have used in the past. It doesn't get rinsed off so it's possible he can ingest it while grooming himself. Is it possible there's sugar in it from the fruit extracts? Or could the wheat be causing a spike? Pic below of ingredients and the product link is here. What should I do?? Maybe I can give him his shot a half hour early tonight? I've been meaning to move it back anyway

Try not to stress about temporary increases in BG's. I know it's hard. :bighug: Look at the nadirs instead. Temporary increases can be more than just food, they can be seeing a squirrel outside, getting swiped by another cat, a kitty dream.

Also consider that meters can have 20% variance, which can be quite a bit in higher numbers. 20% of 399 is almost 80 points. More than enough to explain the 431 he had before that.

Thanks Wendy, this is all really helpful. Funny enough, he was actually watching two squirrels outside right before I tested and got the 431 :joyful: I had no idea something like that could cause a spike too. That's good to know about meter variance as well. Is that something I should prepare for when handling lower numbers? I know we're a ways away from that but I like to learn and be prepared as much as possible.

We need to turn this into a sticker or a banner or, for those who can relate, just paste it into our SSs, so that we can look at it when we're freaking out. It's such a good reminder.

At lower numbers, 20% is a much smaller difference. Below 100, take the numbers at face value. But if you are uncertain or the number seems out of place, it's OK to repeat the test.

AGREED. I need to overlay it over a picture of some mountains like it's a motivational poster and put it on my wall lol.

Really tempted to actually do this lol Just print it out and frame it!

Jess, good luck with the increase! I hope he comes down nicely for you. :) I'm sorry that brushing him is such a nightmare for you both! :(
