Canadian-made diabetic-safe foods?

Hey all! FF has been our mainstay for the last 5 years or so as an affordable choice that all our cats enjoy, but it looks like we may need to consider buying locally due to recent events. This wonderful forum are the only ones I know who are passionate experts on diabetic [edit] friendly [\edit] cat food - even vets I've been to often point to Dr. Pierson's food analysis. I think most of these are from the US, so I'm just wondering if anyone here has any leads on relatively affordable Canadian-made pates that aren't too hard to find in stores.

I'll keep looking around myself, but thought I'd ask the community in case anyone has any answers. <3
Many thanks,
Kim

Welcome to FDF, no such thing as diabetic cat food, even when Vets speak about "prescribed" foods, these contain a very high content of carbs between 14-25% carbs, diabetic cats need to consume a wet can food diet between 0-10% carbs, cats cannot digest carbs, therefore the pancreas creates the carbs into sugar, with diabetes result, it is a simple way to describe the need for low carbs for a diabetic cat, below is Canada food list, also a Carb calculator, I use it all the time, you can find on the label under nutrients the numbers needed to calculate carbs. I tagged a member from Canada as well she may have some food brands of choice:bighug::cat::cat:

Good question, here is one list:
The above list is a bit old. Another one to consider is the Canada Fresh brand. Do check labels, some US companies make the food in Canadian factories. One example is the Identity brand that uses Canadian kitchens. Or look elsewhere in the world. I feed the Farmina brand which is made in Italy and I've given another brand made in Ireland. Sorry, can't remember the name and kitty went off of it.. It came in a tetra pack. Or Ziwipeak or some of the other brands made in New Zealand. There is a new one in PetValue/Bosleys called Kiwi Kitchen, but I don't the carb %, you could contact the manufacturer.

I'm using Go! solutions by petcurean. Its made in Ontario. Chicken, turkey + duck is the flavour I used. They have very detailed nutrition info on their website based on my calculations there is about 6.5 % carbs in that flavour.

Here is a list of low carb foods, a diabetic cat should have a diet of wet can food between 0-10% carbs, if you do not find what you like in this list let me know and I will tag several other members that may help with other lists, also below is a carb calculator it comes in very handy when choosing of finding low carb foods:bighug::cat::cat:
