Hi Sheila great job handling the 96! I know it’s difficult since you have to leave right after her shot in the morning and she doesn’t do well feeding herself (if the other cats don’t eat her food first!). I hope an advisor comes along soon

Hi Sheila,
It’s lovely to see a blue cycle for Minky. I know it is scary when you first see lower numbers. But you will come to love them!
You didn’t have to feed higher carb food with those blue numbers though. Next time just give a low carb snack and that will encourage Minky to surf in those numbers.
Do you have anyone who can come in and feed Minky a meal while you are at work?
Or are you able to come home at lunchtime.?
Have you thought about a timed feeder for Minky that only she can access? If you fed a lot of her meals from that she would get to know that is where her food is?
For tonight are you able to get up and test her around +5?

Hi Bron
I hope Sheila comes on soon because she was hoping for help. I can answer a couple of questions : she doesn’t have anyone who can feed and she may not be able to come home at plus 4.5–often she can but they’re doing state exams at school and she’s been proctoring. She doesn’t want to skip but she’s terrified of hypo (and of ketones) and Minky usually only eats when Sheila is encouraging her. She didn’t code her SS quite right—Minky was green for two hours (alpha Trak) but she only fed 9% —that’s low carb, right?—1-2 tsp. Usually she feeds 3%

she really appreciates your help and I don’t know why she hasn’t come back on—she has two other cats one of whom has been very ill with food allergies (entire face is completely raw) so between them hasn’t been sleeping at all for some time

Thank you so much for responding @Bron and Sheba (GA). She won't eat snacks. I come home usually at +4 or +4.5 and can only be home for max of 15 minutes. Minky doesn't always go for her food. I see her do it sometimes, but not always. At 10 years old, I am not sure if she will eat from it and with her DKA I want her to always be able to have access to food. I don't have anyone reliable to feed her. I can get up and test her at +5. Honestly tonight I will probably test her at +2 or +3. The huge drops are very very scary especially when you cannot be home.

Hi Sheila, great job giving Minky’s dose and snacks today. I know you are very worried about her dropping too low as well as DKA.
It’s very hard to feel confident shooting and having to leave home to work when you’re worried Minky may not eat.

I’m glad you are posting and getting advice on how to manage all of these complex questions (plus your other kitties and their medical needs as well).
You’re doing great, keep posting and asking questions.

I hope Minky has a safe surf tonight and you can get some rest.

I do understand your concerns. My Sheba used to drop quickly early in cycle and she could be unpredictable.
15 minutes is long enough to test her and make sure she eats some food. Is there any food in particular she likes to eat? You could make sure you have that available if needed.

What time do you feed her and what time do you leave for work? Do you have time to get a test in before you leave for work?
Maybe you could change the shot times so you have a chance to get a +2 before you leave for work. Just a thought.

Thank you @Bron and Sheba (GA). That is what Minky seems to be a little bit more lately--unpredictable. She usually is good about eating Temptations Seafood Medley Pate--3% carbs. I will think about changing shot times but sleep has been in very short supply so right now I am tired and can't think if it will work or not. I have to be to work at 8. I just wish I could be a stay-at-home kitty mum--it would make things so much easier. I have a hyperthyroid baby too who we have just discovered has multiple allergies including food allergies and another sister who is a picky eater. Gone are the days I could just leave dry food down if they didn't eat the wet food. Just so exhausted. Thank you so much for your kind reply <3

I know how exhausting it can be at times. You need to find what works best for you.
Have you got home security where you can see what is happening in the house?
Just throwing up ideas.
I have the cameras but still need to set them up. I will work on this this week. I truly appreciate your help. Today she dipped 155 points but was still in the safe zone. Still scary though.
