Hi Everyone Bailies numbers have been pretty good the last couple of days. But his arthritis is bothering him and I’m concerned. He was at the vet yesterday and wanted me to try onsior on him as he can’t take solensia . I’m not comfortable giving him an anti inflammatory to be honest but I will give it a try for a few days . Does anyone have any experience with onsior use in their cat ? Did it make their cats kidneys bad ?

I just started him on car tripping again. It’s the same thing as adequate. But she wanted me to also use Antinore and I’m really uneasy about using an anti-inflammatory but he’s in so much pain that I really have to give it a try. Do you think it will be OK? She uses it on her own cat and several other cats with arthritis and she says out of all the 20 years, she’s been in practice. She’s only had one cat developed kidney issues from anti-inflammatories.

Hi Nancy I really don't know I have never had to deal with a cat with arthritis. Poor baby.
That's why I tagged Wendy let me try and tag a few more experienced members for you

The problem with Onsior is that you can only use it for three days. It is supposed to be used only for short periods of time, say after an operation. Even on the manufacturers website is says to be used for a maximum of 3 days. https://my.elanco.com/us/onsior I haven't searched lately, but at one point there was an article saying long term use had only be tested in young cats. Which ours are not.

Did the vet object to buprenorphine? Why? I got mine compounded in a vial, chicken flavour for Neko.

My vet has him on it she wants me to do it for 10 days. I’m really not happy with doing it. I really don’t want to. It scares me. She did tell me that she would prescribe bupe. She has no problem with prescribing but she really wants me to try it she has her cat on it long term and her cats doing very well and she really wants me to give it a go on Bailie. But it does scare me. I don’t really want to do it but now that’s gonna be another vet that I’m not listening to and I don’t know what to do.

I would definitely not give Onsior to my cats long term. I have a cat with arthritis in her spine/back legs. I don’t trust Solensia yet. I have her on Adequan injections (which has been around for years) and they have helped her a lot. In the beginning, you have to do the injections more frequently, but now we give them monthly (and they can be given closer together if needed.) The schedule was: twice a week for four weeks. Once a week for 4 weeks. Then once a month. They are intramuscular injections given in the thigh muscle. Your vet can show you how to give the injections. The dose is quite small for a cat and a vial of Adequan will last a long time.

As for pain relief, Buprenorphine is far safer for a cat than Onsior. Cats don’t “do” NSAIDs really well.
