I just uploaded Petey's spreadsheet. We finally saw one low number and now back up to over 500! I just don't get it. Poor Petey. All I do is worry about him all day, trying to figure out what the new normal is for him. He seems to be sleeping a lot when his numbers are lower and when he's in between the highs and lows his eyes twitch. I kept thinking he was too low, but every test when he is twitching a lot has been pretty high.

Although he is not yet regulated, he's put on some weight, grooming (coat looks so much better), and since we up'ed him to 2.25 he has not begged and pleaded for all his meals like he usually does. No doubt he can tell time.

Based on the numbers, are we moving slowly in the right direction? We are getting another libre sensor put on on Monday. I hate the ear pricks.

Thank you

Hi Laurie, I'm not qualified to give you dosage advice, but I can certainly sympathize with the awful bouncing up and down that you're seeing in Petey. Jude is pretty bouncy, and there are other cats on here that are bouncy too, and, though I hate it for all of them, it somewhat relieves me to see that we aren't the only serious bouncers in the group. I'm told the bouncing is normal, even though is makes us fur-parents nervous. This is such a worrisome disease for us, in general; it's time-consuming and we worry and try to do our best, and sometimes it just seems like our efforts are in vain because those babies can be difficult to be regulated. But you're focusing on the positive aspects--his improvements--and that's good. You're in a good place, here on this forum, to get feedback on your care for Petey. Since you're getting the libre soon, you'll have a better idea of what is happening in each cycle, and that will offer information about the highs (you'll know if he went low and is responding with a high bounce--which is what Heather is alluding to in her post). I know one of the moderators will weigh in soon with some guidance, but I just wanted to say, hang in there. We're all here for you and Petey, and we're hoping that you'll get him regulated soon.

I can’t advise but I will celebrate with you his first blue —yay, sadly no celebration horn emoji here—and commiserate over his numbers being all over the place. I’m right there with you but Methos has slowly improved. I know how stressful it is—feels like nothing is working and you’d do anything if only it would help. I’m sure you will get there—have hope.

Sending tons of hugs your way, again yay blue and I hope the libre gives you and him a break from ear pokes.

Just what is in the spreadsheet

Also about the twitching: when Methos moves in his sleep I often worry that his blood sugar is low so I test him. I’ve done this several times it’s always high. Which is why he probably now sleeps with his eyes open, which scares the stuffing out of me,

Yes! I can SO relate. Petey's like why does everyone keep staring at me!

Sorry for the confusion. I only did a +5 at noon today.
Did you give a shot this morning? If so, did you do an AM preshot test? If you didn't give an AM dose, then you'll want to put "ns" in that column. Also, did you do a PM preshot test today? If so, you'll want to add that number in the column.

Yes he got 2.25u this morning and this evening. And I know I should, but I am not testing all that I should.

If it makes you feel any better, my non diabetic cat sometimes twitches when she's asleep too. She's dreaming. Adding weight and grooming is a great report! Cats are a lot more than their numbers, so we like to hear how they are doing besides the BG.

Petey isn't used to lower numbers yet, he's not going to feel as comfy there until he's spent more time in lower blood sugar numbers. I think of blood sugar like coffee. Some people are used to a lot of caffeine, lower the amount and they don't feel right, until their body gets used to it again.

Please update the spreadsheet so show that you shot 2.25 units this morning - it's not showing for us. If you hadn't shot, it would be another explanation for higher numbers.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. I'll update his sheet.

No one is here to judge. Not every cat is amenable to testing. It's good you're getting the libre. I only mentioned this because it helps the moderators when they come in and give advice to know what is happening.

@LaurieB

I see on your spreadsheet you have
History of DKA/Ketones: Yes

Date of DKA: 12/23/24

I would set up your signature so members are aware of this

  • Add info we need to help you:

Be sure to click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom. If you need help urgently it is important we know these things at a glance. We don’t want to waste valuable time finding out information.
