12/23 Kai: AMPS 285, +4 147, +6 126, +8 125, PMPS 166, +2 219, +4 202

When does he get food?

Yes, you want to add a couple of snacks between PS and +4 to reduce drops and flatten the curve. Bouncing is triggered not just by lower numbers that the cat's body is not used to, but also by sharp drops in BG. You could start with a snack at +2 and +4 and adjust accordingly as he starts seeing lower numbers.

One thing you can do till then is to freeze food in an ice tray and leave out a cube of the frozen food when you leave for work. He can't eat it frozen and once it thaws, it will be like giving him a fresh meal an hour or two later.

The ice cube trick is neat! I'm gonna try that while we are away from the house Christmas morning. Thank you Bhooma!

And thank you Tim for the auto feeder recommendation, i didn't know they made ones with their own cooling system, thats super cool and worth investing in. I just need to make sure that I find a feeder with a large enough food tray area. Kai has magnificently long whiskers that are very sensitive, so he prefers a wide shallow bowl with a lot of room to stick his face. If you get a chance could you tell me the width of that feeding area? I couldn't find it on the product page. His current food bowl is about 7 inches wide.
My sister will be working from home full time until February so she can start giving him snacks at +2 & +4 until we get him a feeder and adjusted to it.

The opening is an oval 6.5 inch by 3.5 inch. I do wish the opening was a little bigger for the whiskers…

Yeah I have the same frustration with the rotating autofeeders. They make the openings too dang small! Bell manages alright, but I'm sure it isn't super pleasant for her whiskers. I have looked into ones like these:

But a lot of them don't close back up, which I would want to prevent Bell from eating too close to shot time.

I was looking at a similar one like that on Amazon earlier. It uses the ice packs to keep it cold. They look very spacious.
