Unsure about food

Mickey is on Purina Pro Plan veterinary diets UR, the only flavor I can get is turkey and giblets, savory selects. I checked the food chart, it has 54% protein and 13% carbs. This doesn’t seem to be very good for a diabetic cat. Any suggestions? He has crystals in his urine which is why he is on this food. I asked the vet about this when he was diagnosed with diabetes and he said to continue with this food.
 
We consider food that is less than 10% carbohydrate as low carb. More than 10 to 15% is medium carb and over 15% is high carb. The food isn't awful but it's not great. I started adding water to his food as in the article that you posted. He is eating well, licking up all of the water, and not requiring as much food, and he gained weight. Thank you so much
