I have kept up with my spreadsheet, but have not posted numbers in a while on in individual threads. Minky has been getting 1.75 units, but lately she has been more in the blue's. When she is in the lower 100s and I won't be home I to watch I do not have the courage to dose at all (not even a token dose). Tonight she is at 236 PMPS. Before I wouldn't have thought about it but because she is seeing lower 100s, I am very hesitant to given 1.75 units worrying she will fall 100 or more points as she has when I have given that dosing before. I need some words of wisdom for dosing please.

Actually, there is a much of a chance of get dropping below 100 if you shoot a higher preshot. A preshot is not necessarily an indication of how a cycle will play out. The size of the dose also does not affect a decision to shoot if it's a good dose for the cat. Minky is seeing blues often despite all the skipped shots which is a very good sign that she's willing to get with the program and get regulated. You want to help her with that by shooting consistently. You have been able to get mid-cycle tests in almost every cycle. It is scary to shoot low at first, but as you start shooting low you will realize that you can get pretty flat cycles when you do.

The normal range is 50-100 with a human meter.

What is a "pretty flat cycle"?

Did you give 1.75U at +5? That is 5 hours late? In that case, you wouldn't give insulin again so soon. It's only 7 hours since the last shot?

I gave it 12 hours ago. I gave it at 12:00 PM and it is now 12:00 AM. Unfortunately, it is hard because I have a job where I work 8 hours and on a good day can get home for 15 to 20 minutes to feed, test, and give insulin as necessary. So far I have been able to but we get lots of snow so it is starting to become more of an issue that I won't be able to get home for that very small window. I cannot always ensure that I can test to make sure she is okay which is why I am hesitant to give shots that I can't watch for signs of hypo from.

Sheila, Bhooma can correct me if I’m wrong but I think a flat cycle is one where after the shot the BG adjusts and then stays the same almost the entire time. Of course I’d prefer it come up a bit in time for the next shot bc I share concern over lower shots (let’s hear it for our freshman class of newbies!)

I don’t know how you do it teaching HS and at two colleges, driving through feet of NY snow AND dealing with two other sick cats besides Minky. Do you even sleep? I understand worrying when a PS is low and she’s been dropping, and you can’t guarantee you will be home mid cycle to see how she’s doing. I think she’s done low before and didn’t go eat food on her own. Methos also doesn’t go eat —I wish I knew what to tell you how to handle that. And since I may need to start Jury Duty I wish *i* knew how to handle it for Methos. I’m lucky that I’m home all day and can poke his ears until they’re in shreds

maybe we will get more guidance on this

Hi Sheila,

Minky is seeing some nice numbers!:cool::cool: You are really a great cat mom to drive home to test! I can only talk about it in theory, because usually we don't have low preshots. But I understood that with lantus a lower preshot just results in a flat curve. I was shooting blue just once and it was like that. But I would have been scared too, if I would not have been at home. So I very much understand you hesitate. Maybe you want to use a "?" in the title, to get more feedback?

Hope you and Minky have a great day and the other girls are fine! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope you don't get jury duty--that will be so stressful for both of you. Thank you for explaining the flat cycle--it makes sense now. *sending hugs*

Thank you. *hug* I did have a question mark in it but after I gave her shot, I took it down. As it was tonight she was low at 75 so now I am kicking myself for sticking to both shots--one at midnight last night and one at noon today. I was stressed when I came home and tested before +6 and she was already at 75.
