I realize I’m a bit of a worrier about food spoilage (too many years of doing health/food handling inspections ) but how long do you all leave out wet food? I have been letting them have it for an hour (Muz usually eats and is done, methos does dawdle and often I need to sit with him and push it), but two things are problematic now that Methos is diabetic: on the times I’ve had to test/feed extra, it seems I’m constantly pulling from fridge and returning, and I don’t like microwaving…so sometimes just give up and open a new can or pouch and when the feeding frenzy is over I have a LOT of food to throw away. The other issue is overnight snacks—I’ve been putting out 30-40 cal of freeze dried chicken but often he doesn’t eat it all and it’s pricey to keep throwing away. But I don’t know that I could leave wet food out for several hours. I don’t think he will eat from a feeder. Because Muz eats quickly I got a feeder that will only open for the cat it’s programmed for…he refused to eat from it.

I've heard that 12 hours is safe. I put out wet food at 10 and 10. They usually heat 1/2-3/4 right away and the rest overnight. I also put out a hand full of freeze dried chicken overnight too. No problems so far.

Thanks! That’s really good to hear…getting up every 3 hours to see if he’s hungry is taking a toll
