Cat out of remission, was given 20iu multiple times. Advice please

Just having to read my prior posts from years ago to get a feel for this. Apologies my spreadsheet link is showing errors when shared for some reason so I have attached a screenshot.

Brian went into remission within a year a few years ago. Looks like he needed 3.5 iu of Lantus at that time.

Recently he went out of remission while I was out of the country. I can only assume he was given the low carb pate that kept him in remission. But potentially his diet was changed, and when taken to the vet he was sitting in the 500s.

Lantus restarted. Unfortunately the person he was with, under the guidance of a vet, gave him 4 doses of 20iu. She was quite stressed with the whole thing and didn't note the instruction about the syringe. With honey, karo, and dry food every 20 minutes you can see he avoided the worst.

Going forward, the vet advised the person he was with to aim for the 200s in an elderly cat. I tried to advise dosing, and I think he was getting to a decent number at 2.5 iu, but the dose was reduced when blues showed up.

As of Nov 1st I have had him on 2.5. When looking at the spreedsheet I think he had some breakthrough resistance at after the 1iu reduction, and potentially is still within a bounce from seeing blues again.

Any advice is welcome please! I am leaning that he needs more not less, due to him needing 3.5iu when he was first diagnosed, but I know things can change. I am assuming the green he got on travel day was stress related. And I am not sure what might be going on after the huge doses he was given a few weeks ago. The vet equally unsure.

Hi Nate and Brian! Sorry to hear that Brian is back on insulin. Paws crossed that it is a short stay!

Was there a typo? He got 4 shots at what dose?

It will be helpful for us to be able to see the SS. If you go to your spreadsheet and click on the green "Share" button at the top right corner, it will pop up a small box.
- In the lower half of the box, titled "Get Link", change it to "Anyone with the link"
(These are directions for a desktop/laptop and not for a smartphone)

thanks for replying! yeo! 4 shots of 20iu.... I am able to share the link, but the link itself is showing the values within the sheet as #error. I think I will need to copy the data to a new one first. Just hoping the screenshot will give some idea

Try this
Can't see your SS
To set spreadsheet sharing permission:
* At the top right of the spreadsheet screen click on Share.

* In the pop-up dialog box click on the Get Link section.

* Change link access from 'Restricted' to 'Anyone with the link' and make sure that the permission on the right hand side is set to 'Viewer'.

* Click Done to save the changes.
If this doesn't work I tagged @Bandit's Mom again. She will be on tomorrow

Also can you add to your signature the meter you are using and the dosing method you are following,
When you get your spreadsheet fixed can you add all the information they ask up top

Holy smokes! 4 doses of 20?? Why in the world would they have done that? :eek: I'm so glad Brian is still alive! Poor kitty has been through the ringer.
Hoping you're able to get him back on track quickly and back off of insulin. :bighug:

yeah it was a crazy amount. They were just confused by the syringes I suppose.

LOL. I have requested edit access again :-)

Btw, why are you increasing in increments less than 0.25U? I would go up to 2.75U and re-evaluate the dose in 3 days. With cats that fall out of remission, helping them get to a good dose faster increases the chances of them going into remission again.

thank you! I ut 2.5f for fat, but it has been easily 2.75 those times, so I have changed it to that
