This has been the worst week. First, my 16-year-old non-sugar kitty, Keos, was diagnosed with lymphoma and only given a couple months and now Oreo has hyperthyroidism in addition to diabetes. He's being started on 2.5 mg of methimazole twice a day. I'm so sad right now.

Hyperthyroidism can increase insulin resistance. Treating the hyperT may help get him more regulated. So do keep a close eye on his numbers, such as what you saw today. :D How old is Oreo?

Sorry to hear about Keos. :bighug::bighug:

Oreo is 14. I joined a group for hyperthyroidism and they're saying 2.5 mg is a high dose to start and the pills cause stomach upset so I've called the vet and left a message that I think I'd rather do the transdermal cream because I'm concerned about him not wanting to eat if he feels sick with giving him insulin. Of course they haven't gotten back to me yet.

If it's the groups.io group on feline hyperT, that is an excellent group. Not uncommon for vets to prescribe too high to start. I hope the vet responds soon. Any chance you can cut the pills in half with a pill splitter?

No, it's a group on Facebook. I didn't get the pills. They're going to call the transdermal in to the compounding pharmacy tomorrow. They were already closed when the vet called me back today.
