Good evening,

after a bumpy start the sensor is working well and I am glad to have that much data again. I would love to see what happens the next two days before I ask for adivce again. So far it looks, as we should go up again.

Today I went to the vet - without Binie - to discuss the options. The young vet already talked to the more experienced one in her holiday, because the situation is so complicated. She even called a vet at IDEXX to figure out if there are any options which are not mentioned in the antibiogram. Unfortunately, there isn't. She has another call with a specialist tomorrow and will write to me, if anything helpful comes out of it. I really appreciate how much they try to help us. Even though they couldn't come up with anything new, I know they check everything.

So there is only the one option where the multi-resistent bacteria is sensitive on, it is called Doxycyclinhyclat. We discussed it back and forth and I am very hesitant to give it to Binie. The bacteria was not reacting on any antibiotic so far so there is no guarantee if this will work. One possible side effect is, that it could cauterize her esophagus, if she doesn't swallow correctly. Binie has some issues with swalloing, so this is usually a reason not to give it. And it is very harsh for the kidneys, which are already damaged.

Binie is doing relatively o.k. at the moment and had a peaceful day today sleeping in the sun. Seems one can't really predict how long it could stay like that without treatment but at least today it feels not right to risk that for the vague hope to erase the bacteria but risk that she feels crappy again and might cauterize her esophagus.

The vet said that both ways have risks and they can not foresee how it will develop if we go one way or the other. We decided I take the antibiotics with me but I don't start to give it. If she starts to feel unwell at the weekend (we have a long weekend coming), I can give her the Pradofloxacin (the antibiotic we took before the Chloramphenicol), which didn't make her feel crappy and which helped enough to make her feel better. She will contact me tomorrow, if the other expert has any new information, but I don't really expect that.

So this is the situation, I already feared coming. While I write this, Binie is ouside on the terrace on her catbed. I want her to enjoy this without pain and discomfort, as long as possible.

Hope everyone has a calm start in the week! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi (((Heike))), I’m so glad Binie is enjoying the days in the sunshine on your terrace. It’s really her happy place and you are giving her happy times.
And glad the sensor is working. A relief for sure.
I’m glad you went to talk to the vet today. I think that was a very smart thing to do. I’m so sorry she doesn’t seem to have very good answers for you. It’s good she’s consulting with another specialist tomorrow and we can only pray that they come up with something to help.
I think you were taking all of the right steps and asking all of the questions. It’s really all you can do and you’re doing everything possible.

I am sending you a huge hug and so much love and strength. I know you must need it now. And of course, kisses to sweet Binie.
:kiss::kiss::kiss:
I hope you have a peaceful night with lots of hugs and cuddles together. Please let me know if I can do anything to help.
