Hi Sheila, Did you give insulin this morning? If so please put the amount and any tests in your spreadsheet.
That way someone can help you if they need to look to see what’s going on.
Hope you both have a nice night and a safe surf to Minky :bighug:
I just updated it; I had forgotten. She is down 30 more points so we are trying to give her more low carb food. It is a balance as she doesn't always eat that well and so I have to give her her favorite stew to keep away from DKA--it is higher in carb though :( Such a balance...

Hi Sheila, looks like you are skipping the shot when her PS is below 200? For cats with a history of ketones/DKA you do not want to skip insulin. Even a token dose is better than no insulin at all.

Giving her some food at +2 and +4 in all cycles (if you aren't already) can help prevent those sharp drops in her BG.

I have become scared in giving below 200 but my husband and I have realized not giving insulin is a disaster. How much of a token dose?. 5, 1, or something else? I am not home to feed at +2. I can feed at +5 after the shot in the morning. Night time is not a problem. But if I get off track with giving insulin at 7 AM and 7 PM, it really becomes a problem as most days I work 8 AM to 3 PMand have barely enough time to come home and feed on my lunch. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have a second job from 4 PM to 6 PM.

You could try a token dose of 50% of the current dose which would be 1U now. You will see that shooting low can give you pretty flat cycles. In fact, flatter than cycles where she starts at 500. In cycles where you can monitor, you want to try giving the full shot. It is scary at first but with time you will see that it makes a huge difference to her numbers.

How about using a timed-autofeeder? If you left food out for her, would she eat all if it at one go? What some people do is to put food in ice trays and freeze them. Then you leave out the frozen food for her. She can't eat it frozen, but she can after a couple of hours when it has thawed.
