I'm devastated but we decided to euthanise Monty this morning at 8.30am. My beautiful boy isn't suffering any more but I'm stricken with grief.
He wasn't eating properly for a month and the vets were unable to find a conclusive diagnosis before I decided his suffering had become too much. He'd lost so much weight, could hardly walk and was very weak but asking for love and cuddles right to the end. Likely causes were either liver cancer or severe inflammatory issues that affected multiple organs that was not improving. We decided against more invasive tests and suffering for Monty and discharged him from hospital last night. He was put to sleep this morning at home surrounded by family and being cuddled right to the end.
Rest in peace Monty, I miss you already. We'll collect your ashes next week and give you a proper funeral, you'll be buried with your toy fish and all your favourite foods.
