8/27, Binie AMPS 499, +3 360, increase?

Good evening,

Binie hasn't seen any good numbers in days. Today was day seven on 1.25 IU. Shall I increase to 1.5 tomorrow or do I have to wait, because I did a furshot on saturday?

Thanks so much! :)

I hope everyone is having a good day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Great question, Heike. With SLGS does the count restart? @Angela & Cleo @tiffmaxee
I know you ladies are versed in this protocol.

How is Binie feeling today? How are the loose stools? Did your vet get any information on the difficult to obtain antibiotic?
I'm sorry her numbers have been so high. She's got so much going on right now I assume it's not so surprising. Probably makes her feel really crappy :(
Poor baby.
I know you are doing everything possible for her Heike. You're doing a marvelous job with her care!!
Wishing you a calm night and a restful sleep tonight:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much for your support Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I think Binie is not feeling too well. She is still eating good but sleeps all day and I was concerned today that her nose - which is usually pink - has a white/grey colour. That changed again tonight and I hope she is feeling better. She still has diarrhea but not too bad. I think the probiotics helped.

I wrote an e-mail to the vet yesterday with all the information I gathered about getting the antibiotic and what my next steps are. I thought this makes her life easier too, because I take care of it. But it seems I have some communication issues with her and her mail sounded almost annoyed: "I am familiar with the problem of procuring antibiotics ;-)." Nothing more. No next steps, nothing. Somehow I feel she is not doing anything about it and if I am not active, we will not get the antibiotics if needed.

But it seems that we have a third option of antibiotics, Binie can take: I looked closer at the urine test results from january and from august and the germ which is making the most trouble is not the same. The one is called Enterococcus faecalis and the other one Enterococcus sp. . So the Efex Binie took in january didn't fail. I asked the vet about it and she said Efex is not that potent than the antibiotics she takes now but it would be also an option, if this one fails or if the germ comes back. I think that is good news.

I am really worried the vet is kicking us out because I ask too many questions. I always try to do it in a very respectful and nice way but it seems to bother her. As she and her young collegue are the only ones who know how to treat Binie, I would be absolutely lost. :(

I send some hugs for you and kisses for Ivy!:cat::kiss:

A skipped shot means you start over. As a generalization, a fur shot would too but with the bg being high for days and given the situation with an infection, I would increase. For any lurkers this is my opinion for only Binnie. Please don’t copy. If you have a question about dosing for your cat ask in your condo.

I’m sorry to hear about the vet’s attitude. I hope she isn’t really kicking you out.
I think I may annoy my vets as well with a lot of questions and my list of bullet points.
I would hope they view us as involved and concerned Pet parents. We have no other agenda. We just want the best for our pets and we are trying to make sure they get all of the possible care and options available to them. We are their advocate since they can’t speak for themselves.
Hopefully your vet is not offended.

I am glad to hear there is a third option for the anabiotic in case you should need it.
I hope her nose is pink again and she’s feeling better. I’m hoping she feels better overnight and if you do increase her dose, that will help with her BG and maybe she’ll feel better as well.

I know you’re doing such a great job, and I’m glad that Elise was able to give her opinion that it would be OK to raise the dose.

Wishing you lots of sweet dreams for you and your sweet Binie :bighug::kiss::bighug:

I would increase. You collect more than enough data with the Libre to show you aren't missing any lows. And you've gotten good data when the depot was full on this dose - and again, increase worthy numbers.

With SLGS the question of whether a fur shot means you restart is a bit more nuanced. I'd say it depends. With TR the cycle count does start over, but you are holding the dose for a lot shorter time with TR. With SLGS it makes a difference if you have enough data when the depot is full on a particular dose, and you have 7 days at a dose to gather that data.

It is only for caregiver who follow TR where the count starts over for a fur shot or skipping a shot, since TR is an aggressive dosing method where doses aren’t held as long and which also has the concept of “consecutive cycles”. That doesn’t apply to caregivers who are following SLGS; you hold a dose for a week and that usually gives you enough data to know how the dose is working.

Thank you so much Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: I think we are in the same boat. And you are speaking from my heart: We are advocates for our cats and we don't mean to offend the vet with our questions. I really hope we can work it out.... :bighug::bighug::bighug:
