Amps 65 Libre

Good morning, :coffee::coffee:
Low overnight cycle for Ivy. Libre alarm woke me at 1 am (+7) she dropped lower. So…. Spent the night feeding carbs and cuddling in basement on the sofa with my girl ;)

Low Amps, fed 12.5% carbs meal to try to boost her to start her cycle.
Activated a new Libre sensor this morning. Waiting for it to “be active” now.

Plans to be out to dinner tonight. Will feed higher carbs. Will be close to home.
Had dinner with a friend last night who has a cat they leave home at times when they travel to one of their various homes in different states. They leave the cat home for a week at a time with auto feeders/water and auto litter box. (I don’t know if anyone comes to look in on the kitty)
It takes all of my self control to keep my mouth shut when I listen to how “great” it works out :spam::spam::spam:
Their dog is certified as a “service” dog (he’s not really a service dog, but is very well behaved) and flies everywhere with them.

So feeding all dry food to the cat. What if any of the auto systems fail??? And they’re nowhere close by. And may not even know. Arggg. (I know….stay out of it).

I had 2 cats in a previous life and my next door neighbor and I took care of each other’s cats 2x a day when each of us went away. Was such a great experience for many years. We never worried since there was a trustworthy adult involved.
I could never do what our friend does. Even with a young, healthy kitty. Could you? Curious what you all think:bookworm:
Well… safe surfing everyone and have a nice Caturday :cat::cat:

Well almost at +2.75 and she’s 192 on Libre. (Newly activated)

Going to scale back on carbs for the snack shortly. I guess we are seeing a bounce from higher carbs and a bounce from the lows overnight?

Always guessing what’s going on here

Good morning, Staci.
Great start for Ivy! Hope she keeps up!

Gosh, it must have been so frustrating not to just say

You got to be kidding me!

I, too, know some people who leave dry food and have someone come around every 2-3 days (if that ). That drives me nuts.
I haven't gone anywhere since Mikan's diagnosis, but prior to that, when we went out of town, we had a pet sitter come daily for food, water, and litter boxes, and she would generally check on the kitties. Plus, my stepdaughter will come to check on them, pet them and play with them. Even with daily messaging to assure me that everything was okay, there was always this bit of anxiety undercurrent....
So I'm totally with you.

I hope Ivy surfs nicely today and you can enjoy the evening without having to worry! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I see Ivy kept you on your toes last night. I hope she surfs safely today so you can enjoy your dinner.

I can't imagine leaving my cat alone for a week with no one checking in. That's crazy. I hope the auto systems never fail and the cat doesn't make it. How awful.

I knew someone who went away for a 3 or 4 days and just left a bunch of food for their cats. The cats somehow closed themselves into a room for most of that time. They survived but :spam::mad:

Good morning, Staci! Congratulations for shooting that 65! Ivy's SS is beautiful.
Even our mostly outdoors cat when I was growing up (in France, most cats live their life outside at least partly. She loved being insoide at night and in the winter, but was outside most of the day) stayed with a sitter when we left for more than a day, or we took her. I could not imagine not knowing how my cat is doing! The only exception would be a barn cat who does not really need human help, and even then I think I would have somebody checking on them!
We came back yesterday evening, so many feelings. i am glad to find Bella safe and see her again, but the house feels very empty.

Hi Staci,

you must be really tired today! :coffee::coffee::coffee: What a great cycle and what a scary preshot number! :nailbiting: Kudos you did it!

I am also happy the new sensor works well. Good it was already installed, when Ivy was diving deep last night! I understand, why this is an important safety measure.

About your friends: I also get emotional if I hear storys like that. But sometimes people just don't think things through and really think, they are doing great. Maybe they need someone to give them the idea, that besides water, food and a clean toilet a cat needs someone to check if it is still healthy and also some contact to a living being. Your friends don't sound like people, who can not afford a daily visit of a petsitter.

I would absolutely love to have you as my neighbor and we could do mutual pet-sitting! My only challenge would be, not to steal Ivys lamb stew! :)

Hope you have a nice afternoon and dinner tonight! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I agree with you, Kit. Even with very good care I was always worried about Ivy or my previous kittties. But this is another level.
I couldn’t sleep if it were me. :spam::spam:

I agree, Carla. I couldn’t do it ever. I also hope their systems don’t fail.
I could never forgive myself if something bad happened. It’s stupid in my opinion.
And thanks for the good wishes.
Hope you have a great weekend :bighug::bighug:

Hi Cecile, welcome home! Thanks for the compliments. It was a little unnerving this morning since she was bobbing up and down into the 50s right before shot time. But of course, I was have to remind myself that it is on the Libre and therefore the numbers are higher for Ivy then they are on a handheld so that’s how I have to talk myself through it
There’s usually a lot of talking to myself in the kitchen at 5:30 in the morning when that’s going on. My husband says he can hear me all the way upstairs. Oops.:joyful:

I agree about needing to know where my cat is at all times. That’s part of why I have a camera on her so I can make sure she’s safe. I could never leave her alone.

I’m sure your house does feel empty without your daughter there. I remember when my last one went off to college and it was just me, Ivy and DH, that felt very empty and quiet. I did not like it one bit.
Hope you and Bella have lots of cuddle time. I’m sure she missed you! :bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, Ivy and I are thinking of you and Binie and sending lots of love and healing wishes to you.
:kiss::kiss::kiss:

I completely agree with you about our friends. You can be sure they can afford a pet sitter. I have no idea if anyone actually does check on the kitty or not but I know they just talk about how the auto systems are so wonderful.

I think they’re absolutely insane and being really negligent, but that’s just my opinion.

I do wish you lived next-door. It would be great to have such a like-minded person to take care of one other’s cat. And Ivy would be very happy to share her lamb stew with you any day :bighug:
You’re correct but I am quite tired today. I’m going to lie down for about 45 minutes now before it’s time to get ready to go out. Then I have to get Ivy ready for her dinner and shot.

I hope you both are having a calm evening and I hope Binie is feeling well. Sending you lots of good wishes and hugs:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci.
Beautiful 65 this morning, Ivy :D
Frustrating to say the least. I would be biting my tongue too. I could never leave my kitties alone. I worry even when someone else is sitting for me.
Hope you have a wonderful evening out to dinner. Slide down gently tonight for mom! Safe surfing, Ivy :bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi Madeline, thank you. It was an interesting morning o_O

I feel the same as you do about my baby girl. Nothing is too good for her and her safety is my priority. People are soooo odd.
I hope you and Butch have a nice night, too :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yeah, I don't think I've been able to just leave her with some food. Even overnight I have someone stopping in a couple of times to check on her (pre-diabetes). Now if I have to be gone overnight or longer, Eric stays home (even working from home) so he can keep an eye on her and keep her on her feeding schedule (still working on the testing). And if we're out for the evening, Eric's bro comes over to feed her on her schedule (also no testing, but Kit is a one person cat. She is mostly okay with Eric, but even still he's scared to test her. His brother? Not a chance of success).
I think even if I held my tongue, most of the folks who know me would know I was not on board with leaving them alone, and I have been known to just tell them I'm gonna stop by, so please give me a key. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some interesting ups and downs with Ivy today - I hope she settles into some dark greens (maybe even lower dark greens since we know the Libre is higher). :bighug:
