Here is the thread I created in the main forum discussing Bell's recent anal rupture (gross picture warning):

Bell is doing well even with the rupture. Her numbers are a little lower today, which is good. Not sure if that has anything to do with getting some of that infection out, probably too soon for that, but it is nice to see her lower. She threw up yesterday, but didn't have one of her "refusing to eat" episodes. She has been eating well today.

I did get a copy of the bloodwork results that you suggested in this thread:

I'll add them to my spreadsheet soon (sorry been a long day), but here are pictures of the results. No rush at all, just wanted to follow back up on your helpful suggestion. Let me know if this is better suited for another location/thread:

This was before switching Bell to a low carb, wet food diet. She was on a mix of kibble (Petcurean Go and Epigen 90) with a snack of Stella and Chewy raw chicken. Not sure if that matters.

I did get a liver panel scheduled for next month because that was what the vet was concerned about at the time, besides the high BG. These numbers are meaningless to me

I also got some samples of Cerenia, based on your suggestion to try ondansetron. I am not sure that is a similar drug, but seemed to be what they had when I mentioned Zofran. We'll try and see if that makes a difference the next time Bell has a vomiting/refusal to eat episode.

I do have a general question for anyone: Any recommendations on a cone/collar so Bell can't reach her butt? I've tried a few that didn't prevent her from reaching there. I have a hard plastic cone that does the job, but really bends Bell's whiskers up. She seems absolutely miserable with that. I have resorted to fashioning one out of softer cardboard, which works, but she just fell out of the litterbox because of it, so I'm a scared to leave her alone with it.

Those labs are pretty darn good. The ALT is just slightly over range. My vet said not to worry unless more than double the high and if that if everything else was normal like you see not to worry. If she’s doing well I would not rush to recheck it. One of my cats had a slightly high ALT when not feeling well. She was just about 3. My vet was at a conference at the time and she stopped eating so I went to the ER. She stayed overnight and I felt better bringing her home and she recovered from whatever it was. My vet called when he came back and thought it might have been pancreatitis. Even with all my experience with Max, that didn’t seem to fit. She was better in a few days. Her ALT has been normal since and she will be 8 in October.

Ondansetron or zofran is a human med. You can get an RX and buy it from any pharmacy, even Costco. The generic is ondansetron and much cheaper. Good to have both on hand but as long as she’s eating no need to get it now. My vet didn’t carry it in the past but does now.

That is a pet peeve of mine. When my cat git suck and was being treated by an oncologist I was given just a few pills at a time. Thought they cost $10 each. I later learned they tack in a processing fee. I now ask for at least 20. It happened to me again when the sister of the one I mentioned above was sick and I was give. 7 probiotic pills at a time. I then saw I could get a bottle of 40 and had to ask for it. My regular vet will give me enough but I still have to remind him. lol. Cerenia comes in different strengths and 4 to a package. I have pet insurance this time which helps but it infuriates me that they can be so stingy. Even now although I have insurance I ask for an RX and shop on line using Good RX to compare if I don’t need the med immediately.

lol too true. The tech made it seem like a free sample, I rolled my eyes big time when I looked at the bill.

There is now a generic version of maropitant citrate available in the US and Canada, where I am. That is what Cerenia is.

Lots of soft collars for cats available on Amazon. I like the orange slice, toast, or daisy look. . A local rescue with a live stream uses these all the time.
