Increased .25 to 2.75 this morning as suggested. I’m Seeing some pretty low numbers which always makes me nervous. I also worried that his numbers will drop during the night when I am not awake to give him rescue food.

I have a question. None of my 4 cats eat good on any of the low-carb stuff I’ve tried for them. I probably throw away at least half of their food every day, roght down the Garbage disposal .
How awful would it be if I put them back on what they were eating before which was mainly fancy feast: medleys Florentine, Tuscany & primavera or gravy lovers, chicken or turkey.
The only thing they will consistently finish right now is fancy feast flaked trout, and I can’t give that for every meal. They will occasionally finish their blue buffalo, wild delights, chicken and turkey or chicken and trout. Other than that most everything is a no go. Of course they will eat their snack Young Again zero carb kibble ‍♀️
Does anyone else have cats that are resistant to most of the low-carb food? I’ve spent About $1000 since April, trying to find something that they will eat.

I just ordered two more boxes of visbiome but I'm going to have to cut down to 1 packet a day soon because sadly I can't afford $200 a month.
I also have a call in to my vet to ask for suggestions. His food hasn't changed since we switch to low carb in April so I don't think it's food related.
You are giving an entire packet a day!! A packet contains 225 CFU. The recommended dose for a cat is 5-10 CFU per kg of cat per day. Meaning a 11 lb cat gets about 25-50 CFU per day. A package should last at least 4 days, though with my kitty (4 kg) her maintenance dose is such that a packet lasts about 10 days. You are giving too much. A box lasts me many months.

For prebiotic, my suggestion was psyllium husk fiber, more like 1/4 tsp. With pre and probiotics, you start small dose and increase or they can get tummy upset.

The FF white meat chicken primavera pate and and white meat chicken florentine pate are low carb. Have you tried them?

Oh no Wendy!!! The Visbiome that I am using says it has 450 billion probiotics per package and I am using one package in the morning and one in the evening with his meals. I had no idea that Cats should not have that much. How would I how found out what the dosage would’ve been appropriate? I will have to look up the conversion from kilograms to non-metric info. I sure hope I haven’t harmed him by giving him all those days of so many CFU’s :-(

I will look for Pre-Biotic next time I am at the store.
I’m assuming Metamucil might be what I’m supposed to look for. I have looked and looked for those fancy feast pates but I cannot find the pate and either the pet supply or the Petsmart or Meier near me. They only have the higher carb versions, and my cats are not fans of pate at all. I have tried adding toppings, but that doesn’t seem to help either. They are fussy fussy kitties.

do my calculations look right that one packet should be divided into 6.7 servings? I’m not sure how I would do that.

trying to post a picture of my calculations, but it doesn’t seem to come Through. In a nutshell, Watson is 14.7 pounds which I think equals 6.68 kg which I think means he should get 66.8 CF use of the prebiotic and if my package has 450 it should be 6.7 servings per package How do you divide a package up into 6.7 servings ?
I also ordered two more boxes of 30 so I will have enough pre-biotics for the rest of My life. Holy cow

Divide pounds by 2.2 to get kg. You got it right. Try measuring what is in one packet. How many tsps is it? Divide by 7 and that's the amount.

I got plain psyllium husk powder at a vitamin/supplement store.

I had no idea there was an actual visbiome for cats. When someone on the forum said try visbiome, I just looked that up on Google and bought what the picture showed. I am so worried that I might’ve hurt Watson by giving him so much over so many days. I will definitely readjust the dosage on that starting in the morning. I am guessing there is less than a teaspoon in a packet, so I’ll just be eyeballing it. With the amount I’ve been giving him. I’m surprised he still has runny poops. Poor guy. Thanks for your help!

Maybe give him a day or two off to clear his system. There are also capsules for cats which would be easier to measure, if you hadn't just bought a bunch.

You haven’t hurt him. The veterinary product is the same as the human one. Giving too much can cause intestinal upset though.
I use the capsules and give my 9 pound cats 1/4 to 1/2 daily.

Thanks for the suggestions and reassurance. I will skip today and tomorrow of the visbiome. I did order some psyllium husk powder (1/4 tsp right?) and it should arrive today so I will give him a little of that tonight. Can I just mix it with some water in a syringe for him?

Just to top off the stressfulness of the day, we had a low glucose alarm at 4:55 this morning Libra showed 56 but meter showed 71. I did give him a few treats and checked him again in an hour, and we were out of the very low numbers. I might need a nap today lol

You can mix psyllium powder in water and syringe. It’s tasteless so I put in food.
@tiffmaxee I tried putting it in the syringe, but it thickened up so much that he was just spitting it right back at me. I Squirted the rest of it into his bowl of food.
He had a pretty good first cycle today. Hopefully his alarm doesn’t go off in the middle of the night tonight

I always put it in the food. If giving by syringe I think you would need to mix with food. I briefly had to do that with Chai and mixed it in baby food.
