Well. That feels like a bit of a waste of $75.
Kit does not do car rides well. So we give her gabapentin. Gabapentin upsets her stomach. Those two combinations are not great. She pooped (and I think peed based on the dampness of the towel) on the way there. Then a block away, she puked, and then turned around and laid in the poop. So they rush me into an exam room (excellent) and I start cleaning her up. They offered paper towels, but when I asked about wet wipes, she was like, we have Clorox wipes? Granted, it was the receptionist, but ma'am, you work at a vet's office, I'm not using clorox wipes on my cat. So I used a bunch of damp paper towels and went through 3 towels and sort of got her cleaned up.
The vet tech came in and started to take our information. She said the vet only does dentals if they're regulated. I asked what determined regulation, and she said the vet would have to tell me that. I put her on the scale so we could get her weight, because I think no one else wanted to touch her. Partially because she's obviously very stressed, but also she's a

mess.
Then the vet comes in, we chat, she looks at Kit's teeth and said there's a little tarter on some of the back ones, but no signs of gingivitis or other issues, and honestly that she's shocked how good they look and how many she still has. She said based on her xrays from 2022, there were zero issues under the gum line, and she doesn't see anything that would suggest that something has popped up, and that if she hasn't had issues, it's rare that it would suddenly pop up (rare but not impossible). Then she listened to Kit's heartbeat/breathing, and she said what she's more concerned about is a consistent wheeze she hears. And she wouldn't be comfortable doing a dental unless Kit had a respiratory panel (I think is what she called it) done first.
So, we left it at that. I'm gonna talk to her regular vet next week, but I am super hesitant to put Kit through multiple more tests at her age. She was so stressed, and today was the first day she'd been out of the apartment since she got her dental in 2022. And I just feel conflicted. And I'm going to need to dose her again next week gaba so we can trim her claws. Which sucks a lot.
BUT! We got home, she was yelling at me and walking around way more. I tested her - GIRL WAS AT 57. She apparently didn't get the memo that stress is supposed to make her BG higher. It's late in the cycle, but she had thrown up a bunch of food right before her appointment, and was obviously super hungry, and it's been a rough day for her and I, so I gave her a tbsp and half of what I fed for breakfast.
Any, I need a shower (after I test her again at +9), and then am just going to sit and do nothing. Maybe eat my feelings a little.
