? When is the best time for me to schedule mid cycle tests? (Please respond first day all wet)

If I want to do the minimum amount of necessary tests, when should I do mid cycle tests?

Reason for this is I'm building up Arthur's confidence and trust in the BG testing gradually. I feel over stressing won't help him get better, but I wanna do the best for him.

Gradual transition from wet to dry. This mornings breakfast was all wet food. SS updated.

Thank you for all of your help in past threads

Hey that os really nice to see the yellows in there today as well as a little bit lower preshot. Well done getting those tests.

If you are trying to test only a little in the beginning, it looks like you want to definitely get a +6 in the daytime and a +2 at night to make sure things are okay before going to bed. If it seems like he’s dropping at +2, you should probably set an alarm for a test later in the night. So if you think you can get a +4 in the daytime on some days that’s good too.
Tell me about his food transition.

You said transition from wet to dry. Did you mean dry to wet? It looks like he could use an increase to 1.25 units, but I want to be cautious if he is switching to low carb food. The wet food today is probably why you got better numbers.

Yes, I apologize! I switched him from the dry food (45% carbs) to Fancy Feast Chicken. Transition was a little quicker than I intended but he really likes FF 100x more than dry food. haha

Yeah, I'm super curious on dosing too. I'm really curious how he will be doing at him PMPS. I know I shouldn't shoot under 200 for now, right?

I'm overwhelmed but I'm so happy to be seeing some lower numbers

Thank you for the advice on times. I'm gonna send this to my partner so we can work together to get those as often as we can.

Before I was feeling this binary of "I have to do a full curve" vs. "just do AMPS and PMPS". Something in the middle sounds good for more daily information gathering

He's doing so much better now that I've learned to freehand the lancet! A lot less freaked out and it's not taking 6+ tries to draw blood

It's kinda formatted weird because I'm on my phone haha some of them are at the half hour but I'll format it better later :)
It didn’t look weird to me. If you test on a half hour, you can put, for example, 250@3.5 in the +3 cell (because it’s close to +3). The only additional thing you have to do is to manually color code the cell to match the color that it should be. Anytime you write extra information into the cell you have to manually color code the cell and sometimes change the background color as well to make it legible.

I’m so happy that he’s taken the free handed testing better. It’s a better way to go. I’m glad he’s liking the Fancy Feast— most cats do. If you get him transitioned over to all Fancy Feast soon, we will increase to 1.25 units and hold it for 7 days. As far as the testing, once we get a few more nadirs then you can kind of vary the testing time a bit to fill in spaces on his spreadsheet like a checkerboard. One day a =3 and a +5 and another day a +4 and a +6, etc. and when he starts getting into lower numbers you may want to test a little later in the cycle like a +8 so that you have no surprises at PMPS time.

And as for a “no shoot” number, if he’s near 200 but just a little below, I would try giving a very small amount of insulin rather than a complete skip of the dose. First you could try .25 units and gather a few tests to see how high he goes (because he probably will) and then the next time he has a similar preshot number you can try a little more insulin— maybe .5 and test to see if that’s a good amount or if it was a little too low, etc. So gradually you can see how his cycles will go. Eventually you get to shooting lower and lower numbers, but safely.

I just checked and my syringes don't have half units at all... I am going to have to get some!

As of today he is fully on Fancy Feast. :)
Oh yes you are going to need those half unit markings because you have to kind of eyeball the .25 unit increases or decreases between the half unit mark and the whole unit mark.

And don’t forget that if you’re concerned he’s too low to shoot, you can stall and NOT feed him for 30 minutes or an hour if your schedule permits and retest him to see if his BG is rising or stable. As long as it looks like he’s not dropping then you can have more confidence in shooting because you see that he’s at the end of his previous cycle and it will be two hours before the new shot kicks in (onset with ProZinc is usually about +2.)
