? 06/27 Baby G AMPS 188 +1 143 +2 85 +2 71 went to vet PMPS 308

Ok they said she's now 88 and they are doing a fructosomine and giving her a drip to make sure she's stable and doesn't drop again

Still waiting at vet. From what I have read, a cat can be very sensitive to insulin after getting so low.

That bg is not that low to need a glucose drip. She just needs a reduction in insulin. High carb food every 20 minutes would likely have brought the bg up. It’s scary to see low numbers at first. I’m sorry nobody was around to guide you. :bighug:

We are now back home. I tested her and she is 95. I hope they didn't release us too soon. At the time there, when they first tested her she was 88, and when we left I believe they said she was 112. But I had given her lots of karo on her gums while on the way.
As soon as we got back home, she ran to her food bowl to eat.
They said if she's below 200 at shot time, to give nothing, and if over 200, to give her 2 units instead of her usual 4. That seems like a big reduction. I guess because they're trying to be extra cautious until Fructosomine results are in tomorrow.

Just test her every 30 minutes at first. If the bg is staying up give a little lc. Was she symptomatic? That would be a huge drop in insulin. I’d be surprised if she’s not sky high at pmps having had a glucose drip.

No symptoms. Just checked her now and she's 138. I felt like that's a big reduction too as I was thinking maybe 3 and was surprised to hear 2.

142. Thinking she should be ok now? I have to go to a job interview and will be gone a few hours. Shot time is in 5 hours.

Thanks!
She's high but I've seen worse. I guess to be on the safe side until I hear more, I'll do the 2 units tonight and see how she does. I really think it's going to be too little though. :( But we will have results in tomorrow and can reevaluate then.

It will be too little. We go up and down in .25 increments if you follow our methods ideally you want nadirs under 150 with SLGS which is what you would be most comfortable following.

The fructosamine results won't tell you much. A fructosamine test shows an average of blood glucose levels over a 2 or 3 week period. If there have been a lot of high numbers and a lot of low numbers over the last few weeks the fructosamine could show the levels are good. You would also get the same result if she'd been steady around that average number. You are testing enough that I don't think you are missing a lot of lows.

55 is also not too low, but does meant the dose needs reducing, which would be down to 3.75 units with SLGS.

From what I have read, a cat can be very sensitive to insulin after getting so low.
More correctly, if a cat has a symptomatic hypo, they might be sensitive to insulin. Sounds like Baby was not showing hypo signs, just not used to that low end of normal thus hungry. I've tested more than one non diabetic cat at lower than 55.
