Hi -

I’m currently at the animal hospital with Margo and wanted to see if this forum had any advice for what I should ask. Her blood sugar dropped down to 47 this morning (pre breakfast and pre insulin - we are on a 10/10 schedule and this happened around 6am) and I applied karo syrup and tested 15 minutes after and we were up 51, then she showed signs for increased distress so I tested her 10 minutes later and we were down to 41. So we rushed to the hospital for glucose.

She is currently on 0.5 units of insulin and seems to do well on it for a few days.

The first time she went home on this lowered dose, after her initial crash and a test of a week to see if she had gone into remission, she did okay for two days and then crashed so we went off it until she went to her check up. They thought she might have just responded poorly because she was weak from having been in the hospital prior and dealing with the adjustment. So they sent her home again on 0.5 - she started off doing well and this time did well for six days before she crashed.

Is this something anyone has seen before? We just started home resting since I found this forum but haven’t gotten on a rhythm yet because she is tough to get blood from when she’s feeling well, and I was unable to get enough blood for testing last night, but she hadn’t had insulin for 8hours before she started showing symptoms.

has anyone seen only doing insulin doses once a day? Or less than 0.5? Or something else that might be at play?

Please tell us the type of meter you are using.
If the 0.5 unit dose is dropping Margo down to 41, the dose needs to be reduced to 0.25 unit.
Are you giving snacks during the cycles as well as the 2main meals?
