Good morning,

the day began with mixed feelings. On the one hand I was quite happy that after days with only red and pink numbers Binie had a long string of yellow last night. Besides her ketones have been 0,1 mg/dl in the morning, which is fantastic I think.

But then she refused to eat at all. Even the unhealthy food I offered the last days as not interesting. I gave ondansetron and waited 30 minute and gave mirataz but nothing was happening. After 1,5 hours normal shot time I decided to give a reduced dose of 2 IU. I hope she starts eating later and the ketones don't go up again.

Besides I noticed something which worries me a lot. In the night from friday to saturday I found her in the litter box, eating quite a lot of litter. I made a research and found out that this not only very dangerous as it is clumping litter but also shows, that there is something wrong like anemia or deficiencies or other nasty things. That explains to me, why she had problems passing stool the last two weeks and why she had to had two enemas at the vet. I hope I saw it early enough and she will not get intestinal obstruction. She passed stool today but very hard and few. I will write the vet to talk about it. Of course I changed the litter the same night I noticed it. Because I had nothing else I used garden soil but now she has litter made out of wood chips which works good.

Hope you all have a safe and relaxing sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh (((Heike))) I’m sorry Binie is having more and different issues going on. I hope the vet has some suggestions as to what to do about the litter eating. I know that has to be very concerning.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can with her appetite being diminished and it’s good you were able to syringe feed her to get food into her.
I know they say you have up to two hours after the shot to get food into them before the insulin really kicks in.
I’m glad you have the medicines in the house and are able to give them and hoping that they help alleviate not wanting to eat.

Sending you lots of hugs I’ll be praying for you and Binie, that things improve quickly :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thanks Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug: At the moment it is really hard to keep the spirits up. I feel there is always something new coming. I did some research today and the litter eating could mean, she has anemia. As her hematocrit was already quite low in the clinic, that is not unrealistic. But I see what the vet thinks about it. I hope she keeps on pooping the next days...

Yes, you are right I should definitely learn to syringe feed. I have a syringe at home and I saw some videos but it is so difficult to imagine to do that with Binie. At the moment it is even difficult to give the injections. Sometimes she turns around quickly and hisses at me. I am always scared to give her a fur shot because of this. I don't know what changed, before it was quite easy and I felt she didn't even notice. Hope things are getting easier again. I hope you and Ivy have a beautiful sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Believe me, I know exactly what you are saying.
I am having the same feelings myself that every day there’s some new, difficult problem being added onto the pile. It’s very stressful and takes a lot of mental agility to keep pushing forward and trying to help them.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as we both travel this difficult road.
Ivy also has anemia issues and her hematocrit is also on the low end, so I’m also worried about that same factor as you.

It can’t hurt to try to learn how to syringe feed. It’s a useful tool in your toolbox. I have to use it when Ivy just won’t eat and I need to give her shot.

Thinking of you and sending big hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you for the encouragement to syringe feed. I will give it a try. Maybe I wait for a better day. I really hope she eats tonight. She had something during the day.

I didn't know Ivy has an anemia issue. I am so sorry to read that, that is really a complicated situation with so many things going on. Ivy can be so happy to have you. I really hope there is a good solution for her thyroid issues and she will be well adjusted soon. We are also sending big, big hugs! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
