5/1/24 Mazi: AMPS 151 +5 102 PMPS 131 +4 84 +5 112

Mazi's doing really well on the Lantus,. So much so that since you are following SLGS, that 84 tonight earned him a 0.25 unit dose reduction. Make sure he has some food to snack on overnight. He might go lower yet.

@Wendy&Neko thanks! I will drop his dose down to 0.25U in the AM. I just gave him 1/4 can of friskies pate and he ate it all!

I'm gonna try to stay up for another hour and check him one more time.

Or do you think its safe to go to sleep now?

Got it PM +5 112...I just realized I didn't put up the dog food, so I hope that increase wasn't influenced by Mazi cheating on his diet and only influenced by his late night snack.

This is the second time this week I forgot to put up the dog food. I think I'm going to put an alarm on my phone from now on as a reminder.

Goodnight!

@Mazi's Mom
Congratulations on the reduction Theresa!
Wendy has helped me out with Tyler so many times in the past, she's great !

I remember Wendy saying
There isn't a way to translate human to pet meter readings. The AT reads higher at the high end and the two types of meters get much closer as they get to the low end, which is the important numbers.

Thanks @Diane Tyler's Mom!

I'm probably just going to stick with the Alphatrak for "now" because that is what I am used to, but once I get tired of paying $56 for 50 testing strips I'll switch over. I'm sure the time will come sooner than later.

Monday, Mazi has an appointment to get the Freestyle Libre placed by the vet so the vet can run a curve test for 2 weeks. That will be my first experience interpreting multiple human numbers. We'll see how that goes. If the alarm on the Libre goes off, I plan on rechecked him against the Alphatrack. If all goes well, and I get the hang of it, I just might switch over to the relion meter permanently.

I would check him one more time, just in case.

So Mazi rebounded/bounced last night from his 84 BG from last night. His AMPS was 224. I went ahead and gave him his normal 0.5U and will monitor closely today for steep drops.

I think it was a true bounce because even if he snuck in a little dog food last night. It would have only been a few nibbles, not enough to cause that high of an elevated BG this morning. BTW, I now have a reminder set on my phone to pull up the doggy food, so sneaky Mr. Mazi can't cheat on his diet. Lol

But I was wondering, even thou he bounced and gave me a BG of 224 this AM, do I still give him a reduction? If so, I'll start the reduction for his PM shot?

@Wendy&Neko
What is your opinion on this ?
If the alarm goes off on the Libre shouldn't she re check with her D
Relion meter and not the Alpha Trak?

We don't base on preshot numbers, but rather the nadirs or how low the dose takes the cat. I know it's hard not to react to high numbers at shot time, but some cats also go high before they go low. For the safety of kitty, take the reduction when earned.

Doesn't really matter. I prefer human meter values. The Libre is a human meter too and the Relion test strips are cheaper.

@Wendy&Neko and @Diane Tyler's Mom

You guys were absolutely right! Lessened learned!
I just check Mazi at +4 and he was 66 on the Alphatrak..

No more making judgements on preshot numbers only nadirs...He should have recieved the 0.25U this morning.

Won't make that mistake again.

Hes currently eating a 1/4 can of Friskies Pate and I will recheck him in about 30 mins.

He wasn't showing any symptoms incase you were curious.

Nope @Diane Tyler's Mom you a far from it. I'm grateful for the reminders guiding me. Besides adjusting to our new normal, its nice to have friendly reminders because there is so much to take in all the info and figuring out how to navigate this community canbe alot in the beginning.
