Breaking news: RK’s ketones are at 0.1.
Zero. Point. One!! I need a news ticker that scrolls across the bottom of my computer screen, this is so newsworthy.

Overall she’s making ongoing small improvements. She stands when she sees me (remember, she’s feral, so perhaps her intention is to run, which she can’t do just yet, but we’ll pretend she’s greeting me). She climbed up on a little cat cube, which is quite impressive given she couldn’t even get herself into the litter box not that long ago. Her eyes definitely have life behind them again. And I swear I heard a faint purr. But she’s still bony and fragile and lost a lot of muscle mass, and although she’ll lick a few treats, she really isn’t eating much on her own. She’s not grooming or playing and she sleeps most of the time. But she’s less reclusive and more interested in her surroundings. Given that only a few days ago I thought we might lose her, she’s doing pretty well.

Last night she hung in Yellows quite far into the PM cycle so I held off on giving R until I knew for certain she was heading up. She caught the express elevator around +10. I debated whether to skip the R but decided to give it (a) to try to prevent a black AMPS (and perhaps elevated ketones) and (b) as an experiment. I knew the R would carry over into the AM cycle, just not sure how far. I was hoping it will help restrain the BG until the Lantus kicks in, but not so long that we have both R and L exerting too much downward pressure simultaneously. I’m wondering what your thoughts are and what you would have done. @Wendy&Neko @Bron and Sheba (GA)

Lovely to see another pink Preshot. And the 0.1 ketones! RK is a real trouper.
The R did drop her a bit more than 100 at AMPS (hindsight is great) but I think I would have given it to her with the BG shooting up again +10.
You are there and you can see and gauge so much more than we can. I’ll be interested to see how the rest of the cycle pans out.
I see you have just added 244@+1.5
I hope things keep looking up. I’ll look in as soon as I wake up.

Oh so happy for the 0.1 ketones....Jack and I send lots of hugs and love for continued improvement! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Beautiful news and so happy about the great ketones report! She sounds so sweet, a little faint purr. My heart.
You are doing an amazing job with RK. Sending more hugs and healing vibes :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Love the RK report!:)

She's looking much better on this dose. It's only 5 cycles in, so might yet get more action as the depot builds. The trick this time will be to try to slow down any steep drops. What is her feeding schedule the first few hours of the cycle?

I would have been tempted with R too. She's been getting LRS at the same time, be interesting to try R without fluids to see if that combo is making her drop more with this dose of R.

What is her feeding schedule the first few hours of the cycle?
I typically feed every time I test at this point, so every hour or two. Exception is if I'm doing frequent (every 15-30 minute) tests like earlier today when she dropped quickly. She also has a buffet of canned and dry food available at all times, which she usually ignores. BUT, I did catch her nibbling on a few kibbles of junk food (Meow Mix dry) today, so who knows.

That’s a very good point. I try to time the fluids to when she shows noticeable dehydration (which typically occurs when her BG is sky high) or when the ketones are running high, so the fluids can perhaps encourage the numbers to come down. But that does tend to line up closely with when I’m dosing R. I’ll focus more on splitting them up.

Overall she continues to do pretty well considering. Ketones are back up to 1.2 tonight but I’m pretty sure we can get them beck down with more syringe feeding and fluids.

As for last night’s R … maybe I should have given less that 0.1u. I would have thought based on a few other data points that it would be reasonable, but she hung in the yellows extra long so maybe the landscape is changing. It’s possible the antibiotics are impacting things, I suppose. And to add another variable, it’s possible I forgot to give the AM shot. I think I gave it (I remember prepping and taking it to her) but I don’t remember actually giving it. It’s interesting how quickly this stuff becomes autopilot.

edited to add: unfortunately I wasn’t able to give an R booster in the AM cycle.

I don't think she would have found those blues without the AM shot. Plus she kept going down after R+4, that was probably the Lantus talking.
