I'm wondering: A) how to do a curve; B) what do you learn from a curve/what is its purpose; C) how often do you do a curve. Thanks in advance!

Hoping for a good day for Watson

From the SLGS method
Hold the dose for at least a week:
  • Unless your cat won’t eat or you suspect hypoglycemia
  • Unless your kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L). If kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L) decrease the dose by 0.25 unit immediately.
After 1 week at a given dose perform a 12 hour curve, testing every 2 hours OR perform an 18 hour curve, testing every 3 hours. Note: Random spot checks are often helpful to "fill in the blanks" on kitty's spreadsheet. The goal is to learn how low the current dose is dropping kitty prior to making dose adjustments.
  • If nadirs are more than 150 mg/dl (8.3 mmol/L), increase the dose by 0.25 unit
  • If nadirs are between 90 (5 mmol/L) and 149 mg/dl (8.2 mmol/L), maintain the same dose
  • If nadirs are below 90 mg/dl (5mmol/L), decrease the dose by 0.25 unit
Example
When ever you decide to do a curve , to make it easier for you to understand it, here's an Example Only For You
if you do a 12 hour curve
Say you test at AMPS at 8 AM and give insulin
Next test 10 AM
Next test 12 noon
Next test 2 PM
Next test 4 PM
Next test 6 PM
Then you PMPS test at 8 PM
You can give him his usual snacks when doing a curve

Rosie can you add SLGS to your signature since that's what you are following
Also I would do the curve using the CVS human meter

I added the SLSG to my signature. Just to get the hang of it , I’m doing a curve today; I’ve been tracking on a spreadsheet every two hours but I am using the Libre 2 numbers. I tried to copy and paste a trial curve to my thread, but it does not show up so I guess I don’t know how to do that

Hi ladies Rosie's kitty earned a reduction on 4/23 night cycle
Watson's on 1,75 units now following SLGS
She asked how to do a curve and I told her above and suggested she test do it with her CVS human meter rather than the Libre ,of course I could be wrong
Can you answer her question
Thanks ladies
By the way Rosie said
Watson's Libre2 sensor will end on May 1st but the vet can't put on a new one until May 6th. She will be testing with her CVS human meter until the libre is out on

When a person is using the Libre, a curve is kind of moot. The goal of a curve is to find out any missing detail, like how low the dose is taking him. It's a good tool for people who only test with a hand held and can't get many tests per day. Two days ago you captured that this dose is getting him to the 90's. The goal with SLGS is to get to a dose where they regularly see nadirs in the 90-149 range. Today's curve is just showing you that he's bouncing. Not the best day for a curve.

I was just doing it today to see if I could figure out how to do it

@Diane Tyler's Mom I’m sorry, I don’t see one that I didn’t tap like
Hi Rosie you already did lol

You asked
Quick question - Watson's Libre2 sensor will end on May 1st but the vet can't put on a new one until May 6th. I purchased all that's needed to test with a meter, how many times a day do I need to do that? Only before shots? When he seems lethargic?
In the past I've not done anything if there is a gap but I want to be more pro-active now that he's on low carb food.

Hey Rosie, great job linking your previous days post
You have to test Watson's BG before giving the insulin both AMPS and PMPS
I would then get a test in @+2, @+4 and @+6 for both cycles. Of course if
numbers are dropping to low you will need to feed and keep testing until his BG comes up to safe numbers
Of course if you aren't sure about something always post
