Hello everyone,

It's been sometime since I have posted. You know, life.

Herman is doing well since his Christmas Day ER stay for pancreatitis. Appetite good, playful, seems happy...But I am having a heck of a time getting him regulated. :oops: Some days I think I should be more aggressive with increases, other days I wonder if he is maybe overdosed. He was a prolific bouncer the first time around before remission and he is back at it again now. We also struggle a bit with chin acne and matted fur....We just keep chugging along.

For those who are familiar with this journey Herman and I are on they may recall last summer I took in senior cat, Ralf. While it was challenging - I loved having him around and Herman absolutely adored him. He passed last week at the grand old age of 26 surrounded by us all. He had a great run - but will be sorely missed.

I hope to spend some time catching up with you all!

Hi Amy! :bighug:
Welcome baaaack!
Glad to hear that Herman's doing well!
Bouncing - I can totally relate (as you know!). It's frustrating and discouraging - it controls my emotional health :rolleyes: but we keep plugging along!

I am sorry to hear about Ralf's passing. You gave him such a lovely home to spend the last part of his very long life. He went a happy kitty. Nonetheless, it must have been heartbreaking.

Sending you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Amy & Herman
Hi Amy glad to see your post, I'm glad Herman is doing well.
I remember when you got Ralf, I'm so sorry he passed.Wow 26 years old. He sure did have a good run. I'm sure he will be missed . I'm sure Herman misses him too.
Sending you lots of hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:

I'm sorry to hear about Ralf :(.
Please tell me that you're at least taking care of yourself along with your mountain of responsibilities :bighug:.
How is Herman doing overall? All 5 P's? Is he still spicy in the 70s? I'm not seeing overdose. If you can monitor, I would be a little more aggressive with increasing.

Twenty-six! Twenty-six!!! Ralf must have been a very happy guy to stick around for so long. I'm sorry you had to say goodbye. Sending hugs to you and sweet Herman. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Nice to see your post!

I’m glad Ralf came back to you for his final year. That full-circle moment surely was good for both of your hearts, probably Herman’s too. :bighug:
26 years is amazing but no matter how long, it’s never, ever enough. I’m so sorry. I just lost one who was 20+ and will likely have to let another go soon, and I find myself not only grieving them but also looking back at where I was at that time in my life when they arrived. Wow, how much has changed, and how time flies. (Maybe better that we don’t have that crystal ball to know what’s coming down the path, lol)

As for Herman, glad to hear he’s still patrolling his domain and sharing his opinions with we mere mortals. :joyful: The chin acne and mats not so much—are you using any type of steroid-based cream that might be affecting his BG?

Hope you can come around more often. Until then, take care and give Herman a scritch for me.

26 is just amazing! What a great last time with you Ralf had. Glad to hear Herman is doing well now.

But I am having a heck of a time getting him regulated.
He's a long term diabetic. Under TR it should be reductions under 40, one week in solid green, or if you think he doesn't hold reductions well, you can do three times between 40 and 49 on 3 separate days. His nadirs don't look good on this dose. Too much time in higher numbers. And with returning diabetics it can be harder to get them regulated unless you really keep on those increases.
