Pick up the food for now?

I have a few cats, different ages. They are grazers and food is out for grazing. My vet recommended to raise Pumpkin's dosage to 1.5 (SLGS) and re-curve after 10 days to see if a dosage increase was merited. The way numbers are looking, I just want to pick up the food. But, this is not a normal routine.

For now, might it be better to pick up the dry food a couple hours before dinner? Or, just continue with established routine and determine dose as directed?

Hi Shell,
Are you feeding science diet dry food? Are you aware it is around 30% carbs which is very high and totally unsuitable for diabetic cats….well I think it is unsuitable for all cats. All cats need a low carb diet.
Diabetic cats need a low carb wet diet with carbs 10% or under and you can get plenty of suitable canned foods from pet stores and supermarkets and there is no need to pay for prescription foods that are all mostly high carb
If you were feeding a low carb diet you would most likely find that the BGs would be much lower. But please do not make any change over until you are there to monitor the BGs closely as they could drop quite a bit.
Also are you able to get any tests in during the pm cycles at all? At the moment we are only getting half the picture.

I would continue to use the feeding routine (times) that you normally use. I would however pick up the food 2 hours before testing the preshot BG.

Thank you, I will continue these feeding times. And, will consider transitioning to a lower carb food. I could try for some PM tests also. :cat:
