Hi There - Luke was doing great for awhile on a dose of Lantus 2.0 and I occasionally had to drop it or raise it depending on bounces. But recently over the past month, he's been consistently higher than normal. His nadirs are occurring closer to his evening dose, rather than in the middle of the day (like I would expect) and he's been very thirsty/hungry. He has also been urinating more. No ketones at this time.

He did have an eye infection which I am treating with topical steroids and I'm wondering if that could be doing anything? The vet also advised me to give him a preventative flea/heartworm treatment which I put on the back of his neck (his sister got heart worm last year).

Any thoughts on if I should increase to 3.0 tonight or hold this 2.75 dose for one more day? I hate to see this guy struggling like this.

Im not experienced enough to answer but if you put a ? at the front of your title, more might respond. :bighug:

We change the dose based on the nadirs it's getting, not because of bounces.

This is the third cycle of 2.75 units. If you don't see green by the sixth cycle, you can increase to 3 units. Now that Luke has been diabetic over a year, his reduction criteria have changed with TR.

They are not sure how long he needs to stay on them. At first they thought it was uveitis then maybe an infectious disease and now they are not sure. I took him to a specialist who said that it’s important to get the eye back to normal as the discoloration was concerning.

that being said: his blood sugar has been higher since we started the treatment. I’ll keep this in mind. Thanks for the advice.
