Yesterday's post

Hello and late good morning to everyone!

Today is my first time posting on the Lantus forum. I've posted a few times on the main forum and everyone has been so helpful but a few recommended I post here as well.

Yesterday I decided to try TR. I increased his dose last night. It was nice to see numbers below 500 this morning but we'll see how the rest of the day goes. His body is very used to those high numbers and there has been a lot of bouncing.

I am desperate for help in getting Charlie regulated. He is the love of my life and I need him to stick around as long as possible. I have learned a lot since he was first diagnosed, and learned even more once I started posting here. I know that I have a lot more to learn and I appreciate any help you guys can offer!

@Katy and Charlie
Welcome to the Lantus Board.
Good luck with the increase
One thing Katy In your title you always need to put Charlie after the date
Look to the right tap in Thread Tools , then tap in Edit Title and add his name :cat: Glad you switched to TR

I knew I was forgetting something. I got that fixed! I think switching to TR is the right thing to do in order to get this under control quickly. Fingers crossed!:cat:

Fingers, toes, and paws crossed for even better numbers with this dose soon. Thanks for keeping noting the results of those ketones test too.

How is Charlie feeling and acting these days? We are also interested how he's doing, as that's as important as his numbers. Litter box habits OK, grooming, playing, any purring, eating OK?

Thanks for asking! He seems to be acting pretty good. Eats great, but he is probably still drinking and urinating more than he should. His poop has been softer and sometimes runny, and the absolute stinkiest! (any advice for smell would be appreciated, my goodness he can sure stink up the whole house) This morning I ordered some of the Purina Fortiflora packs since I know that can help with diarrhea. He grooms quite a bit but due to the excess urination, he gets litter-clumped paws every once in a while that I have to clean for him. He purrs and cuddles all the time, he's always been my little cuddly baby. :p He doesn't play a whole lot. He seems interested but I think the neuropathy is holding him back. When he does play he mainly uses his front paws and doesn't get off his bum. I'm still giving him the vitamin b12 to help with the neuropathy. I want to say it's helped but I think we really need to get his BG under control to really help the neuropathy.

Agreed on the neuropathy, better regulation is key. You will get there.

Regarding stinky poo, what food are you feeding him now? Some foods are filled with fillers that cause unpleasant results. One of the things I loved about feeding a raw diet was lack of smell. Fortiflora doesn't really do that much - it's more a flavour enhancer. If he's having diarrhea regularly s. boullardi is good. He is on the Friskies Pate. I've given him different flavors and they all seem to make him stink the house up. If I had all the money and time in the world I would feed him better food and a raw diet. Whatever I feed Charlie, I also have to feed my other cat, Annie. Friskies is cost-effective, but if you have another recommendation I'm open to it!

The Fortiflora is already on its way so we'll see how he reacts to that. If not, I'll look into the other options!

Oh boy! My foster cats who eat Friskies pates have the WORST poo smell in the world. It smells much worse than my other cats who eat Weruva BFF Pates. I understand about the cost. I have a lot of foster kittens (ten here right now, bhut we had 20 last year) and you can only imagine the food bill. I try to start them off with the higher end kitten foods (Royal Canin, Wellness) for as long as I can afford it then I transition them to Fancy Feast kitten food and then when they are a little older they get Friskies pates. They seem to do very well on them buy the stinky poo is an issue!

And I was super excited just to see all pink and no reds on the spreadsheet today. Let's see how this goes as his depot builds a little bit. :-) I think I will do a backflip when he starts having a lot of yellows... and who knows what I will do when he starts having lots and lots of blue (and then dark greens!) It can happen.
