I need help. I don’t know what to do. Bubbas is losing internet in eating :( he seems to be interested in drinking water tho, which is good. His poop and pee seem normal, I haven’t tested his pee in a couple days so I’ll try and do that this weekend. I gave his dry food last night and he loved it. But this morning not interested at all. I tried 2 different food combos and nothing. I’m really scared something is wrong but I don’t have the funds to take him to the vet because they will just do a bunch of tests I can’t afford.

Is this a bad sign? I’m really fearing the worst right now. He’s never rejected food like this. He’s not liking tuna, he’s not liking the in gravy fancy feast, nothing. I’m going to continue to give him Cerenia to see if that will help. He doesn’t look good physically tho either. :(

Have you tested his ketones? I would do that immediately, if possible. Cerenia doesn’t help much with nausea, if he is nauseous. Is he licking his lips, drooling, etc which would indicate nausea? if he is, it might help if your vet would give you a prescription for ondansetron. Don’t ask for a lot as it is expensive but you could start with a script for ten with refills.

Are you able to go get some chicken or Turkey baby food that is just the meat and broth like Beech Nut?

You control what tests are run at the vet but if he doesn’t eat, he needs to be seen. Have you ever used CareCredit? If not, you might want to check it out.

I haven’t checked for ketones but I forsure will once I get home. He ate his dry food well last night but this morning he wouldn’t touch any food, he only drank water. And no he isn’t drooling or licking his lips. I just figured maybe he’s nauseous and that’s why he isn’t eating? I do have care credit but I’ve had to use it so much that I only have maybe $150 on the card which will only cover for a visit and MAYBE a single blood test. I can definitely get him some baby food. I’m going to persmart after work to get him this broth stuff that he usually likes so I’ll stop at the store and get some baby food. Any suggestions on any brands I can get?

isn’t it just the generic for Zofran? if you use Good RX, it looks like it’s pretty reasonable ( based on your local pharmacy and location)

Beech Nut. If he’s got ketones, it is an “act now” situation. Because you aren’t able to test him much, you should be testing his ketones every single day. And while I don’t know your schedule, you could be getting more tests in: always the Preshots as you’ve been doing but then get an out the door test before you leave for work, an in the door test when you get home, and always at +2 and before bed test at night. It’s impossible to make good dosing decisions on just Preshots and once a week curves.

Ya I’ll start testing his ketones more often. Its hard to catch him peeing because his litter is in the front room and I’m in my room after work all day because the front room is considered my brothers room for right now. But on work days I one test him in the AM once due to me doing the AMPS then leaving out the door 20 mins later. I can start doing more PM shots though. At this point I will do what I need to do, a vet visit will happen sooner then later if this continues for more than a couple more days.
