? Are you use libre measurements in your ss?

Hi to all, I need your opinion. I use accu-check instant as glucometer. Recently the new vet requested to put libre 2 to my cat (as libre 3 is not available in Greece). It is easier and more convinience for me to not test him so many times per day with glucometer as I make many unsuccessful attempts because several times he bleeds a little (while I have warmed his ears and other times exactly at the same point he bleeds a lot) or he shakes his head and ears after the piercing or he is angry when he is hungry and does not sit quite mainly in the pre - shots. Also many hours I will be out of home at work in the next weeks. However in low numbers I used to double check the BG numbers from libre with these of glucometer.
All of you that you use libre which measurements are you enter in your ss?
Based on what numbers do you make your increases or decreases?

I am aware of limits of libre regarding its accuration in very high and low numbers but also human glucometers have their limitations in cats.
Do you enter in ss measurements of both?
I am a little be confused.

Hi Gabriella, it is a confusing process. It’s not perfect using a Libre.
I use a Libre 3. I enter my Libre numbers in my SS. When my cat goes very low and I double check Libre numbers with a handheld glucometer, I write both numbers in that cell on the SS. (Many people are confused by my process).
I write L (for Libre) and C (for Contour meter) in the cell.
I base my decreases on my Contour meter (which usually reads higher than my Libre).

I’m not sure what others do.
I think your meter seems to read much closer to the Libre readings than my meter.
Good luck! :)

Hi again Stacy,
Except the cells that you put both meassurments from where are all those numbers without L or C? From libre?
I prefer libre for his convinience and accu-chek for his accuracy. I was also thinking to base the hypo decreases on accu-check but what about the nadirs or pre-shots or all other numbers that should be above 100 for 1 week for reduction? I cannot make every 2 hours test (as it should ) with glucometer while he is also in libre for several reasons:cost, psycological it is difficult for me to pick him sometimes more than 3 times for a good test, I will be at work more than 9 hours.
Today he would earn a decrease with libre at 45 but he was at 50 with accu-check...for 1 mg/dl only he oficially lost it.
In numbers more than 100 it seems that libre show more than accucheck.
I dont know what to do but I am also happy with libre because I am very anxious and with libre I am more calm as I can check him every moment.

Yes if unmarked they are from Libre. At the top of my SS I marked that all data are from Libre unless otherwise noted.

I understand why you use the Libre. Same with me. Ivy won’t allow me to ear prick her as much as I would need to check bg every day.
I do the blood test when she’s low and I need to check for her safety that she’s not hypo or to see if she earns a decrease.
I don’t worry so much about that high values since I won’t do anything different anyway if she’s 300 or 375 (since we base decisions on nadirs, not the high numbers). She’s gonna have to bounce and come back down. And she does.

What about nadirs? Do you also double check them and your decision is according to contour numbers? Moreover, regarding decrease there is also the below option: reduction *earned* when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) and stays under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week and following TR
What about all these numbers that should be below 100 . How do you measure them?

I don’t double check nadirs. I don’t always know when her nadir is. It moves around. And over night she may nadir when I’m sleeping.
She hasn’t yet been under 100 on any meter for a week yet so I can’t answer that question :(

With libre view you can see every hour her max and min ...from these you can see when it has her nadirs I suppose. Mine suddenly has green and blue at both but most of the measurements are with libre so again there is a problem as sometimes it is green with libre and blue with accucheck or the opposite. I thing that the moderators should give their advice what we should do as more people and many vet started libre in cats.

It’s a newer technology and most moderators don’t use the Libre so they are not as familiar with how it works on a daily basis. And yes, many vets are advising us to use the Libre as a tool to help with diabetes management.

It’s not perfect, but I feel it helps me a lot. I hope it helps you, too :)
