Hi Anna & Mitsos and welcome to LLB! Have you picked a dosing method? Here is the Link to either Tight Regulation (TR) or Start Low Go Slow (SLGS).
Mitsos' numbers are trending much better since the switch to low carb food :cat:
The advice on dosing will depend on which dosing method you will be following. Let us know how we can help:)

First of all , I would like to thank you for your immediate reply. To be honest, recently i am in touch with the group of "Feline Diabets", as i was not able to test my cat's blood before.I dont know which method is better for him..He starded last Nov with 2U's and due to the food change and his numers the dosage shold be reduced.I dont know whch method to decide..

Congratulations for Home Testing!! It truly is a valuable tool in keeping your kitty safe.

So the MAIN differences between Tight Regulation (TR) and Start Low Go Slow (SLGS) is:

SLGS: You hold a dose for 7 days (unless a reduction is earned). You decrease the dose when the BG falls below 90. The aim of this protocol is to keep the cat in the 90-150 range. This is more suited for caregivers who can't test as much as TR requires. You do a weekly curve with SLGS.

TR is a more aggressive protocol with increases as often as every 3-5 days. Reductions are earned when the BG falls below 50 on a human meter. The aim is to keep the cat in the range of 50-100 (which is the normal BG range for non diabetic cats). To follow TR, you would need to get at least one test per cycle in addition to the pre-shot one i.e. 2 tests per cycle or 4 tests per day. You would also need to be feeding only LC canned food and no dry food.

Did he switch to low carb only on 2/17? What was he eating before that?

If you are feeding only low carb canned (no dry food) and can get at least 4 tests per day - 2 preshots and 2 mid-cycle, then you can follow TR which is a more aggressive dosing protocol. I see that you are testing quite a bit, so TR should not be a problem! You would reduce the dose if he drops below 50 (using a human meter).

@Anna1
Hi Anna
When posting on the Lantus boared we have a certain way to post
Help us help you by incorporating these suggestions into your routine...
  • Start only one thread per cat per day. Multiple threads scatter pertinent information about your kitty in too many places.
  • Your thread title should conform to the following format:
Date (mo/day) Kitty’s Name AMPS or AMBG subsequent test numbers PMPS or PMBG subsequent test numbers (AMBG and PMBG are used if you don’t shoot or gave an accidental fur shot).

As an example: 06/26 Fluffy AMPS 220 +2 160 +3 120 +5 100 +8 132 PMPS 200 +2 287 +5 300

If the line gets too long, as above, you can also delete all the a.m. cycle info at PMPS/PMBG so that the a.m. cycle will only have AMPS/AMBG to +11 tests and the p.m. cycle will have PMPS/PMBG to +11 tests.

To add the additional BG numbers look to the right and tap on the word Thread Tools, then tap on Edit title, add your other tests then tap save or done. We also like you to link your previous thread to the new one in case a member needs to find it quickly :bighug::bighug::cat:
