Happy Valentine's Day to all, paired or not. The important thing is to be able to love.

Lu's been having a great day today, in the blue zone. The reduction so far seems to be working well for her, and I have a strong suspicion I shoulda listened to Wendy and just kept her at 1u!

Some replies from yesterday.

@cecile & bella , thank you for the video you posted yesterday. You must be so proud of your talented kids! I hope the concert went well, and here's to the next!

@Marje and Gracie , thank you so very much as always for your help and caring. I think I'll start with Gut Soothe from Adored Beast, as I want to get my entire cat crew's gut biome in good working order. I love slippery elm, and see that that's in it - it's my go-to for kitties and people.

I'm taking a good look and think at the other things you've mentioned. I've never thought of egg yolk powder, although I've given my seniors and anybody who's sick a whole raw egg yolk, and include yolks in the raw diet I make, which is the original formulation from Feline Future.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly that commercial pet foods are the reason for so many cats becoming ill and having their lives cut short. Having had two 14 year olds pass in the last 6 months, both of lymphoma, is something I can with no exaggeration say I'm still having PTSD about.

@Wendy&Neko , thank you for your help! So sorry to hear about your kitties' struggles with IBD and SCL. But very happy that your cat is in remission, and equally happy to hear that you have an enlightened vet. I'm going to be moving back to Calgary this year, and hope to find someone I can work with as the vets here in Montreal have been pretty consistently horrible.

I'll be following Marje's suggestion with the probiotics she's using, and the raw diet I make contains psyllium husks. Even if I'm feeling commercial pet food, I'll add a sprinkle of psyllium to it.

Thank you very much for the HC recommendations. Whenever I see wheat gluten in pet food I shake my head, same for carageenan.

Raw feeding footnote
I hit a wall with my raw feeding for my two cats, who I fed raw from 1998 - 2013, Sam, who I called "River" here to preserve some anonymity, and his brother, Java. Sam lived to 17+ and Java lived to 21+ years.
Sam developed a sensitivity to beef. I had no idea that beef and chicken are common allergens for cats. I was making Sam and Java a raw beef diet with muscle meat, liver, heart and kidneys since they were about 6 months old. Sam eventually got pancreatitis and then diabetes because I never questioned their food. But it was beef that Sam was reacting to. So when we joined here, I changed him to novel proteins and had to make sure he didn't get any beef.

I want to make raw food again, and now that Sam's hanging out in heaven with Java, I can use beef, or any other protein that works for the cats. But there were a few years when I couldn't feed a raw homemade diet, as beef was verboten and chicken liver was too rich for my cats and they couldn't keep it down.

You are going through a lot of information, deciding on the best foods is like studying for one's Master's Degree, I have been trying to learn as well. I am glad there are such knowledgable people on this forum to help with both of our journey's. Good luck with the dose decrease for Luciole, her SS is looking very good! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

@Marje and Gracie Thank you Marje, for that information of supplements you give your furbabies, especially the one for the whole egg yolk powder. I was giving Food Fur Life Yolk Powder to my K.C., but they haven't had it for years now. I was getting a brand for Chef's that I found on Amazon, but I will try your brand, Nature's Pharmacy as it is a larger quantity! Thanks Marje!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

You’re welcome. If you ever want to try something different, Food Fur Life is really great and very easy. I like the ingredients very much. If you ever want to check food sensitivities, not allergies, Nutriscan is very helpful.

You’re welcome dear, dear Ruth. I’m so happy to see you hear, visiting, and supporting. I miss you!

I also used FFL and I think it is great quality. I looked at a lot of products before settling on Nature’s Farmacy.

Check around to see if you have any exotic meat butchers near you. I have one 5 minutes away. Kangaroo, venison, wild boar, buffalo and I also got turkey, all organic. A couple of the local raw meat manufacturers also supply packages of just the raw meat in the local raw pet food stores. That means elk, ostrich, goat, rabbit and a few other odd balls. I've even seen water buffalo.

With the dried egg yolk powder, you might want to try making some first. Instructions here. Yes, eggs can be an allergen too, as current IBD kitty told me. :banghead: Fortunately I found someone who could use my almost unused bag of FFL dried egg yolk powder.

In Canada, we've also got TC Feline premix, which I used before FFL premix came out.
