Kona is still very low this morning at 60... please see yesterday's thread

I set up the automatic feeder last night in yesterday's thread, she did NOT eat any of it. =(

She is also not eating this morning. Not sure what is going on. She seems a little off.. but she is walking around fine and wagging her tail. Maybe just a little less social.

I think I'm going to skip. If she is not eating, this is too low to manage.

Wondering if I should take her into the vet.

Greens are nice, Kona, but don't scare your Bean ok?

I would skip insulin. Do you have FortiFlora aka Kitty Crack? Most cats will eat anything covered in it. A little sprinkle goes a long way.

Wow looks like Kona was definitely busy last night.
Are you working from home today to keep an eye on her?
It's always worrisome when they don't want to eat/aren't themselves.
Has she thrown up? Used the litter box?

I don't have any FortiFlora, switched to different probiotic that is not all that desirable.

Yes, I have to work from home today, there's no way I can go in...

I haven't noticed any puking and she pooped in the litterbox last night.

She peed as well this morning or over the night.

Was the 79 at least 20 mins after food?

Yes, the 79 was 20 minutes after food... but I believe it was only 2 teaspoons or so. Then she ate some portions about 10 minutes after that.

Pretty sure it was food influenced.

How long since her shot was due? Is she eating okay now with the parmesan?

Her shot was due about 45 minutes ago.

You could give her a token shot of 0.5U or skip, if she's not eating. If you feel more comfortable skipping, go easy on the carbs and see if she will eat LC with parmesan on it.

Okay, I got a 109, gave her the token of 0.5U and she actually ate some of her Weruva Wx Low Phos food that is really soupy at 0%.

Today's Summary:
6:43am - BG 60
Stalling - not eating, eat some 14% and some 20%
7:25am - BG 79
7:44am - BG 109
7:45am - Shot 0.5U (token dose, one hour late)
7:47am - Fed 3-4 teaspoons of Weruva Wx Low Phos (0.0%)

If you do decide to skip, please get a ketones test. Not enough insulin, plus inappetance, plus infection or system inflammation (should it be what is causing this) are a bad combination.

For what it's worth, cats getting anaesthesia who cannot eat, can still get half a dose. Insulin does more in the body that combat the carbs from food.

Thanks so much!! :bighug::bighug:

I did a token of 0.5 of the normal 1.25U. An hour late.

Collectively, with all my attempts, I’m pretty sure she ate a full breakfast.

I will do two ketones blood tests today and will post the results.

FortiFlora isn't a great probiotic. The only thing it's great for is to make food more yummy to cats who otherwise won't eat. It's worth having a box on hand to use when needed.

Feel better, Kona! Keep eating and surfing :cat:

I cancelled the subscription, thinking I needed a higher quality probiotic. But THANKS, you're totally right... wouldn't hurt to have a box on hand just to serve as a topper!

Thank you so much! :cat:

Hey Kona, I hope you are feeling a bit better, and getting your appetite back. Black cats are the best.

Jason, I hope your day goes much better now, and wanted to chime in that Squeem3's advice to have some FortiFlora on hand is perfect. Its real use is just as an expensive appetite stimulant. Fortunately, a light dusting is all it usually takes for my bunch. I also find that the freeze-dried treats work, when I crumble them into dust. And of course the parm is great!

I hope you have a much better day ahead of you!

I use it for my civvie when she decides her raw food is yucky  I don't use it for Leroy because I don't know if the animal digest (the magic yummy ingredient) contains chicken/poultry/beef/pork, a big no-no for his tummy.

I love you all, can't thank you enough... really!

I have a vet appointment scheduled for today at 3:20pm. Not with my normal vet, but they're squeezing me in to see someone else. The appointment scheduler suggested they will probably give her a dose of Mirataz. I asked if I could have more of whatever to have on hand and she said they are low on Mirataz some sort of manufacture shortage. I'm not familiar with any medicines other than insulin, Kona has never needed them, but I've seen the name around here on the forum.

She also noted Kona is due for dental and that might be something they will look at today. I have the dental already scheduled for March 13th, so maybe they will want to bump it up?

I tested just now and got a 157.

Today's Summary:
6:43am - BG 60
Stalled- wasn't eating, eat some 14% and some 20%
7:25am - BG 79
7:44am - BG 109
7:45am - Shot 0.5U (token dose, one hour late)
7:47am - Fed 3-4 teaspoons of Weruva Wx Low Phos (0.0%)
9:17am (+2.25) - BG 154

This page from Tanya's website has ore info on mirataz which is an appetite stimulant used for cats.

Both constipation and dental issues can affect a cat's appetite/willingness to eat.

Good luck at the vet! :-)

Easy to just post photo… looking good

Back from the vet. I got a tube of Mirataz, they applied it there. I plan on always have a tube of it no matter what in the future for emergencies.

The Vet wanted to do a full blood panel, we tried to, but Kona wasn't haven't it. I have to come back on Monday with her loaded up with Gabapentin.

Mirataz is working beautifully, I'm very impressed, she just finished her dinner as I'm writing this. I will give her shot next.

Today's Summary:
6:43am - BG 60
Stalled- wasn't eating, eat some 14% and some 20%

9:17am (+2.25) - BG 154
10:57am (+4) - BG 116
1:06pm (+6) - BG 120
4:00pm - Vet gave Mirataz
6:38pm - PMPS 200
6:40pm - Fed 1/2 can of TruLuxe Pretty in Pink (0.5%) + Weruva Wx Low Phos (0.0%) + 0.25ml Nordic Naturals Omega 3 + 1/8 scoop of FloraCat Probiotic
7:00pm - Shot 1.25U

Any ideas from the vet on what caused this? At least her picture doesn't look like pain face, just worried.

A small modification to the spreadsheet if you have to stall. Move the actual preshot number into the AMPS cell. And write it as 109@+13. That lets us know it was an hour late. Then you can put the dose in the usual units column. The rest of the BG numbers can go in the +11 from the night before (ie. one hour before). So you'd have 60@+12, 79@+12.5 in that cell. You can always write note in the Remarks column about delaying due to lack of appetite.

They want to "R/O transient inappetence" They wanted to do a full panel to see if there's anything else going on as this different vet noticed "increasing renal values" in her charts. (in my spreadsheet labs)

They checked blood pressure, I didn't hear if it was bad or not... so assume it was normal.

After the blood panel results come back next week, they wanted me to consider bumping up her dental from March 13th that I already schedule to doing it in a couple weeks to rule out any oral issues.

So sounds like no real assumptions at this time, just keeping her eating with Mirataz as goal #1 and running tests.

Here some info:

Thanks so much, I think I got it right!

She's such a beauty, and I'm glad you got her the 'Taz. You're so smart to always have it in your First Aid Kit. I'm kicking myself, as I just gave away my tube of it to a shelter. It's pretty fast-acting, and is supposed to be effective within an hour.

Best wishes for good bloods and nothing amiss for your Miss.

The values for PM+12 & +12.5 are in today's row instead of yesterday's :-)

How is she doing? Eating okay? Any poop? Her numbers look good even after the stress of a vet visit and a token dose!

Too kind, thanks so much, Lara! :bighug:

Yeah, I was shocked to see the expiration is really good at 5/27, but only 30 days when opened, so I plan on getting a fresh bottle that is unopened for an emergency kit. It's ALWAYS the weekend when these things happen when your vet is closed. I got lucky today.
